Menlo Microsystems
Director, Test and Product Engineering
Menlo Microsystems, Irvine, California, United States, 92713
Menlo Micro has reinvented one of the most fundamental building blocks of electronic systems – the electronic switch. Menlo Micro’s technology creates a new switch category that eliminates compromises and tradeoffs by combining the benefits of electromechanical and solid‑state switches into the best of both worlds with its “Ideal Switch.”
Are you interested in playing a critical, impactful role and work with top electronic systems talent at an exciting startup backed by industry leaders? Do you want to help create truly disruptive and unique products that will change markets? If you answered yes to both, this may be your opportunity to have a significant impact in a cutting‑edge startup with industry‑leading technology that will drive electronic systems innovation across a diverse range of industries.
Role Summary and Purpose The
Director, Test and Product Engineering
will lead a team responsible for defining, developing, and deploying test strategies for advanced MEMS switch products. This role requires strong technical expertise in MEMS or semiconductor test methodologies, leadership in managing cross‑functional teams, and strategic vision to scale test infrastructure to meet quality, yield, and cost targets.
As manager of the New Product Introduction (NPI) Test Team, you will play a critical role in developing cutting‑edge, ATE test solutions for both wafer and package‑level tests. Additionally, you will develop reliability test systems to support product qualification. You will be directly responsible for all aspects of the production test development process and ensure timely development and release‑to‑production of Menlo Micro test solutions. You will work together with a team of test, design, packaging, product and application engineers in both the power and RF product lines.
Additionally, you will manage the NPI Product Engineering Manager. In this role you will ensure the product and test engineers are working together to release products through characterization and test capability. New product engineers lead products by partnering with design engineers and work with New Technology Introduction (NTI) regarding yields, failure analysis, characterization and qualification. The product engineers will verify new test programs, communicate and address issues with solutions as the devices are validated to the specifications targeted.
You will report to the Vice President of the NPI team and collaborating with various departments throughout the company. You will directly impact critical roadmaps, create new product test solutions and close Phase 4 in our phase gate process to release new products to production. Projects will encompass portions of design, characterization, packaging test, RF, electrical, mechanical, and test considerations, along with data analysis, reliability testing, and root cause problem solving needed to validate the designs created in NPI and launch them into production.
Essential Responsibilities This is a management role, however hands‑on guidance is required.
Lead and mentor a team of test engineers in developing robust test solutions for MEMS devices
Define long‑term test strategies aligned with product roadmap, manufacturing scalability, and cost targets with support of the test engineers in NTI team
Drive innovation in test methodologies, automation and infrastructure to improve efficiency
Oversee the design, development, and implementation of production test programs for wafer probe, final test and reliability‑level test
Insure DFT (Design for Test) strategies are incorporated during product design phase
Complete validation and track new product test results and use that data to analyze readiness for qualification
Work cross‑functionally to solve issues that arise in the design through qualification phase of the products
Partner with design, NTI and quality teams to optimize test coverage, yield, characterization, capability analysis and time‑to‑market
Collaborate with operations, foundries and OSATs to transfer and sustain test programs in high‑volume manufacturing
Drive continuous improvement in test cost, throughput and reliability
Represent the Test Development organization in executive‑level review and customer engagements
Communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels, leveraging your problem solving, data analysis, and critical thinking skills.
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor's or higher‑level degree in electronic engineering
12 years’ experience with at least 5 in management of a test and product engineering team
Detailed knowledge of all aspects of ATE Production Test Development including Design‑for‑Test, Test Plans, HW/SW design, debug, bench correlation, GR&R/Cpk analysis, test time reduction and production release
Proficiency in ATE software structure and programming of test systems
Knowledge of precision Analog and mixed signal test methods
Ability to architect new test systems
Ability to invent creative new test solutions and methods
Extensive knowledge of ATE hardware design including schematic capture and physical layout
Solid understanding of ATE production package‑level handler and wafer‑level prober environments
Extensive data analysis knowledge including statistical analysis – repeatability studies, GR&R analysis, Cpk analysis, ANOVA, distribution theory, hypothesis analysis – Guard banding test limits, using Excel data analysis tools for root cause analysis
Demonstrated sound DOE practices and ability to investigate, determine root cause, and implement appropriate corrective actions using statistical data analysis methods
Mentor team to carefully plan experiments and tests to validate ideas/theories and what expectations will be
The ability to work in a multi‑disciplinary team environment, including other NPI team members, NTI team, production operation, quality, design, and product engineering
Excellent communication skills
Willingness to travel up to 15% of the time
Must be US person per ITAR regulations
Desired work location is Irvine, CA.
Desired Characteristics
Industrial experience in MEMS
Experience with NI PXI test instrumentation
Experience with LabVIEW and TestSTAND software
Understanding and experience with JMP!
