Birkwood Village Fort Madison is seeking a Director of Nursing for our Long term care/SNF. Salary Range: $98,000-$110,000

Position Summary The Director of Nursing (DON) leads our nursing department and plays a vital role in ensuring high-quality, compassionate care for every resident. The DON oversees clinical operations, provides leadership to nursing staff, ensures regulatory compliance, and promotes a positive team culture rooted in our mission and values.

Responsibilities

Plan, organize, and direct all nursing services in accordance with federal, state, and facility policies.

Provide clinical leadership and support to nursing staff, fostering teamwork and professional growth.

Oversee care delivery on all units, including the ventilator unit, ensuring quality and safety.

Work closely with ADON and MDS/Careplan coordinator while collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement resident‑centered care plans.

Maintain compliance with CMS regulations, infection control, and quality assurance programs.

Participate in hiring, training, evaluation, and mentoring of nursing staff.

Assist staffing specialist with staffing scheduling as needed.

Lead and participate in quality improvement initiatives and survey readiness efforts.

Build strong relationships with residents, families, and staff to uphold a culture of trust and respect.

Qualifications

Current RN license in the state of Iowa.

Minimum of 3 years of nursing leadership experience in skilled nursing or long‑term care.

Previous DON or ADON experience preferred.

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Knowledge of CMS regulations, PDPM, and quality measures.

Passion for person‑centered care and small‑community living.
