Overview
The Medical Director (MD) is the primary physician leader of the hospital and is responsible for the development of clinical standards, policies, and procedures; direction and coordination of diagnostic and evaluative activities, treatment programs, and patient care; and ensuring compliance with Federal and State laws, Department policies, and clinical directives. The MD maintains liaison with national, state, and local mental health agencies and professional organizations to stay current with standards, and participates in the DSH statewide medical directors council and governing bodies. The MD also participates in recruitment, selection, and allocation of clinical staff, and represents the department in external negotiations as required. The MD has ongoing responsibility for patient and staff safety and must respond to emergencies.

Salary: $30,149.00 - $37,403.00 (New State candidates may be hired at the minimum of the classification or applicable alternate range)
Location: San Luis Obispo County
Work Type: Exempt Executive Assignment – Non Tenured, Full Time
Facility: DSH - Atascadero
Responsibilities
Lead clinical practice standards, policies, and procedures for the hospital.
Coordinate diagnostic and evaluative activities, treatment programs, and patient care.
Ensure compliance with Federal and State laws, DSH policies, and directives related to clinical functions.
Maintain liaison with external agencies and professional organizations; participate in the DSH medical directors council and Governing Body.
Participate in recruitment, selection, and allocation of clinical staff; advise the Executive Director on program staffing and committee memberships.
Represent the department in consultations and negotiations with external entities and the news media as required.
Ensure safety of staff, patients, and property; address disruptive or potentially violent behavior through approved interventions; respond to emergencies as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Possess the legal license to practice medicine in California as determined by the Medical Board of California or Osteopathic Medical Board of California.
Completion of a psychiatry residency from an accredited institution.
