Project Kuiper is Amazon's initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Our mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

We are seeking a talented Software Development Engineer to join Amazon's Project Kuiper team, working on our ambitious satellite internet constellation that will provide fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. This role requires a strong foundation in production software development, database architecture, and machine learning technologies.

Key job responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain large-scale distributed systems for satellite communication infrastructure

Build and optimize high-performance databases to handle massive volumes of telemetry and operational data

Implement machine learning models and LLM-based solutions for network optimization and predictive maintenance

Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, network architects, and data scientists

Ensure system reliability, scalability, and performance in a mission-critical environment

Export Control Requirement Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Qualifications

5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Proficiency in programming languages: Python, Java, C++, Go, Rust, JavaScript/TypeScript

Strong understanding of software design patterns, data structures, and algorithms

Experience with version control systems and CI/CD pipelines

Knowledge of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud computing platforms (AWS preferred)

Experience with DevOps tools: Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, GitLab CI, Terraform

Experience with monitoring tools: CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
