About the role We're looking for an Assistant General Counsel to join our legal team. This role is designed for a mid to senior level attorney with deep knowledge of financial regulations and experience handling regulatory compliance issues. You'll be a trusted advisor across the business and will have the chance to work on a wide range of legal issues in a fast-moving fintech environment.

Responsibilities

Serve as a versatile legal advisor across Branch's business units, balancing regulatory, commercial, product, compliance, and corporate needs

Provide practical guidance on financial technology regulatory matters (Reg E, Reg D, Reg CC, GLBA, Reg Z, etc.), privacy, IP, and corporate governance issues as they arise

Support product teams on product development issues and go-to-market strategies, payments, and consumer financial protection laws

Partner with Compliance and Risk teams to operationalize regulatory requirements and advise on policy updates

Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of agreements (customer, vendor, partnership, marketing, and technology)

Assist with corporate governance, including board materials, and corporate filings

Develop templates, playbooks, and scalable processes to improve efficiency and consistency across the Legal team

Collaborate directly with senior leadership on strategic initiatives and risk management

Qualifications

J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school and active membership in at least one state bar

4-7 years of legal experience, ideally with a mix of law firm, financial services or fintech in-house practice and/or state or federal regulatory experience

Experienced with bank partnership models, strong negotiator with solid legal writing skills

Broad-based legal experience and ability to spot regulatory and compliance issues in the context of product development and in commercial agreements

Strong judgment and business sense; ability to balance legal risk with business priorities

Excellent communication skills, with a practical, solution-oriented approach

Comfort working independently in a dynamic, high-growth environment while collaborating across functions

Compensation The salary range for this role is $200-250k.

The salary range displayed reflects an average base salary range for the position across all the U.S. The base salary offered to an applicant could be higher or lower based on each applicant's specific skill set, depth of experience, relevant education or training, etc.

Location This position is classified as REMOTE within the United States of America. We are unable to hire candidates located outside of the domestic U.S.
