Base pay range
$60.00/hr - $70.00/hr NOTE: THIS IS A 12 MONTH CONTRACT! YOU MUST BE ABLE TO SPEAK JAPANESE! Project Overview
Remediation and Modernization Initiative based in Newark, NJ Seeking 2–3 senior Java consultants with 10+ years of experience Focused on legacy code remediation and modernization using Spring Boot and MVC frameworks Codebase includes a mix of older Java (WebSphere, Maven) and modern Java technologies Technical Requirements
Java expertise is mandatory Spring Boot, MVC, Maven, WebSphere (on-prem) Secure coding practices to identify and resolve vulnerabilities AWS and hybrid environments (on-prem + cloud) Familiarity with Claude AI is a major plus Using Claude to assist with code analysis, issue detection, and remediation Building agents to automate fixes and support modernization Language & Location
Must be comfortable working with legacy systems Japanese language skills required. Must be able to speak in Japanese. Consultants will be onsite in Newark, NJ and expected to operate at a high technical level Scope of Work
Initial focus on remediation of legacy applications Long-term goal includes modernization and agent-based automation using AI tools Plenty of work ahead—ideal for consultants who can contribute to both remediation and strategic modernization Responsibilities
Lead migration from legacy Java systems to modern frameworks (e.g., SpringBoot) Develop and optimize enterprise-scale applications across old and new Java stacks Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software Integrate AI-assisted development tools, especially Claude Mentor junior developers and ensure code quality, security, and performance Required Skills
Deep expertise in Java frameworks (EJB, SpringBoot), legacy servers (Websphere), and modern platforms (AWS ECS, Kubernetes) Proven experience in Java modernization and architecture conversion Strong API development (REST, SOAP, JSON, XML), SOA patterns, and database integration (JDBC, MySQL) Proficiency in automated testing, DevSecOps, and secure coding practices Familiarity with Claude AI for coding support Skilled in DevOps tools (GitHub, Jenkins, Bitbucket) and SDLC monitoring/logging Strong problem-solving and debugging abilities Able to work independently and collaboratively Seniority level
