Overview
Database Administrator III at
The Catholic University of America . Plans, architects, develops, implements, administers, and maintains systems and procedures for ensuring the security, integrity, performance, availability, recoverability, and scalability of databases and applications supporting the university’s business while aligning with industry best practices and organizational strategic goals.
Responsibilities
Administer databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server): installation, configuration, maintenance, and backup; monitor integrity, security, utilization, and performance; maintain accurate documentation.
Administer ERP systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Raiser’s Edge): install, configure, maintain core business systems; monitor performance; perform tuning; resolve system problems including root cause analysis; ensure system integrity and security; manage access logs; implement encryption and auditing tools; apply new releases, upgrades, and patches.
Design and implement infrastructure enhancements: lead or participate in projects to implement and test ERP and database infrastructure; develop project plans; coordinate activities; ensure comprehensive documentation; perform production migrations with change control; develop contingency and disaster recovery plans.
Provide expert technical support: act as top-tier support for critical escalated security and system issues; process service tickets and perform advanced troubleshooting; serve as a technical liaison for security design and third-party integrations.
Design and develop security models: create a streamlined, role-based security framework for the ERP system; review provisioning/de-provisioning processes; collaborate with stakeholders to design new models and develop security audit reports and performance metrics.
Perform day-to-day security activities: provision/de-provision ERP accounts; manage roles and row-level access; analyze and resolve security problems; audit security across environments; maintain security structures and support auditors.
Perform other administrative duties: execute assignments, provide status reports, and create/present briefings; cross-train staff and participate in relevant group and project meetings.
Qualifications and Experience
Formal Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field; Master’s Degree preferred.
Practical experience: at least 6 years as PeopleSoft applications administrator; at least 4 years in PeopleSoft security administration; at least 4 years administering databases (Oracle and/or MS SQL Server) in a multi-tier ERP environment; experience writing SQL queries, generating reports, and scripting to automate processes; experience with IT security audits; leading IT audit teams preferred.
Experience substitutions: two years of experience can be substituted by a Master’s degree.
Technical Qualifications and Certifications
Knowledge of IT concepts, information security principles, performance monitoring, relational databases, backup/recovery/high availability, ERP concepts, SDLC, automation, and project management.
Hands-on experience with Oracle Database (19c+), Microsoft SQL Server (2019+), PeopleSoft Internet Architecture and PeopleTools, and database/ERP monitoring tools.
Certifications: current professional-level database administration certifications are highly desirable (e.g., Oracle DBA, MCSE Data Platform). Other desirable certifications include information security (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CISSP) and project management (e.g., PMP).
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Analytical skills for root cause analysis and problem solving; attention to follow-up to address root causes.
Learning agility and ability to adopt new ideas and technologies.
Organizational skills to manage tasks and coordinate with team members;
