Overview
Director, Veterinary Public Health to position Boehringer Ingelheim as the leader in North America Veterinary Public Health (VPH) by establishing, influencing and maintaining effective business revenue creation relationships with government and NGO decision makers that direct veterinary public health policy and programs. Within Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health, manage all aspects of VPH commercial operations including financial (P&L) oversight, product demand management and inventory control, in-line product life cycle planning, new product development strategy, business development & strategic planning in alignment with the VPH global strategic business unit, marketing tactics planning plus revenue-creation plan execution, contract management and client-focused engagement management.
Duties & Responsibilities
Business Management: Lead NA VPH P&L with focus on top line revenue creation combined with operation expense control in order to maximize bottom line profit potential and yield. Annual business plan (P&L) development, long-range strategic plan process management
Demand management: Employ strategies to provide clients products as required without excessive inventory reserves, including joint demand planning with clients and efficient product bank management
Cost management: Work with internal manufacturing to monitor cost of goods (COGS) and explore options to reduce COGS through process efficiencies, new methods for active ingredient production, improved packaging/delivery and life-cycle improvements
Strategic Planning: Vision/Mission/Objectives, market assessment, research, opportunity analysis, product positioning, SWOT, global alignment, competitive analysis, revenue & expense planning
Marketing & Revenue-Creation: market segmentation, promotional evaluation, development of product key messages and campaigns, promotional material development, client engagement, contingency planning
Industry Engagement & Relationship Management: manage alliances with government and NGO entities; engage key decision makers. Client base includes government agencies and public health entities
Technical Support & Compliance: product/disease knowledge training, development of technical materials, needs assessments, KOL meetings, training, SOPs and regulatory/compliance standards
VPH Staff Management: resource planning, priority setting, performance management, training, recruitment, and recognition programs
Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required
MBA, DVM, MS, and/or PhD preferred
Minimum of ten (10) years in Animal Health or related industry required
Prior experience with government agencies (e.g., USDA, CFIA, state/provincial agencies, CDC) preferred
Marketing/product management experience with emphasis on revenue management preferred
Excellent listening/interpersonal/team-building skills
Fluency in English required; fluency in Spanish and/or French preferred
Strong verbal/presentation/communication/negotiation skills and computer literacy
Ability to operate with initiative with minimal supervision
Adaptive/creative mindset with ability to leverage changes for opportunity development
Expert at alliance/relationship building and networking
Ability to analyze industry trends and translate insights into marketing/market defense strategies for BIAH VPH
Desired Experience, Skills, and Abilities
Wildlife biology experience desirable
Experience with food-producing animal industry and industry groups
Successful leadership of business units and teams
Financial and market forecasting experience
End-to-end P&L responsibility
Financial forecasting and market forecasting skills
Eligibility Requirements
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction
Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
Must be 18 years of age or older
