Tenure Track Positions
We seek scholars with expertise in (1) Algorithms and Complexity Theory and (2) Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. We also welcome applications from exceptional candidates in all areas of computer science, including machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, medical imaging, robotics, security and computer systems, and related fields.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field and demonstrate strong potential for securing external research funding, teaching, and student mentoring.
Distinguished Professor of Computer Science We seek an established leader in medical image computing at the Full Professor level or with equivalent international research distinction. The candidate’s doctorate can be in computer science, engineering, data science, medical physics, or a closely related field. They must have a strong track record in published research, external funding, teaching, and mentoring. The successful candidate will join a department with over five decades of expertise in medical image computing and active collaborations with the School of Medicine, located a 10-minute walk away.
Teaching Track Positions We seek individuals with exceptional teaching credentials for full-time positions at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor. Successful candidates will teach foundational computer science courses, with opportunities for upper-division courses, Honors courses, and study abroad programs. Ideal candidates will employ evidence-based pedagogical methods to teach large classes, train teaching assistants, and develop undergraduate curricula. Research engagement is welcome but optional.
This is a permanent faculty line with an initial three-year term, renewable for up to five years, with a promotion path to Teaching Associate Professor and Teaching Professor. Candidates must hold at least a master’s degree in computer science or a closely related field and have instructor-of-record or two semesters of teaching assistantship experience.
About the Department Collaboration has been our driving principle since 1964. Our 40 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 9 teaching-track faculty, and 12 research faculty serve more than 2,000 students. Faculty collaborate extensively across campus with nationally recognized programs in medicine, public health, and the humanities, and throughout the Research Triangle area.
Application Information Screening begins December 1, 2025 for tenure-track positions and November 1, 2025 for teaching positions. Applications submitted thereafter receive full consideration while positions remain open. For more information, visit cs.unc.edu/about/faculty-hiring/.
