Overview Parasitology Technician (Overnight) at Antech Diagnostics – onsite at our Lab in Oak Brook, IL. Schedule: 12am - 8:30am, Monday - Friday with alternating Saturdays. The target pay rate is $22.74 hourly. This is an onsite role. Job Purpose / Overview The Parasitology Laboratory Technician performs laboratory analyses and tests. In addition, they prepare samples, set up instruments, run tests and read, interpret, and release results. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Sets up, runs, reads, and releases lab tests. Meet all minimum department requirements for Para and Giardia reading/releasing rates. Exercises judgment in evaluating and reporting results. Performs equipment maintenance activities. Maintains awareness of quality control and calibration. Assists lead or supervisor with rechecks as directed. Follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including safety and quality procedures. Maintains clean and organized work area. Restocks supplies as needed. May be cross trained to perform other duties, such as performing less complex tests, including duties performed by Para Aide. Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation. Consults with senior peers on non-complex Parasitology tasks to learn through experience. Performs other duties as assigned. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent required. Science degree or veterinary technician experience is preferred. Prior lab experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests and operating lab instruments preferred. Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology, Parasitology procedures, equipment, and familiarity with a microscope preferred. General science background. Attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Effective communication to convey information clearly. Positive, can-do attitude. General computer skills. Working Conditions Stationary position; may remain in a stationary position for up to 2 hours. Operate computer and lab equipment accurately and efficiently. Occasionally bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch. Lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs. Observe details at close range. Extended hours may be needed. Laboratory environment with potential biohazards mitigated by PPE. Typically receive general instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new assignments. Work under close to moderate supervision. Potential exposure to agents that can cause zoonotic disease and to hazardous chemicals per National Hazard Communication Standards.
