The Corporate Controller is a key member of the leadership team, responsible for managing all accounting operations, financial reporting, payroll, and compliance. This role reports to the CFO and ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the company 's financial information and supports strategic decision-making through proactive financial analysis. The ideal candidate is a hands-on CPA with a strong understanding of GAAP, proven experience in managing accounting functions, and the ability to lead and mentor a team in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment.
Key responsibilities
Develop and mentor the Corporate Accounting Department to ensure high performance and professional growth.
Work effectively with all employees within the corporate office environment.
Provide strong leadership to the CFO with insights that drive informed decision making.
Prepare clear, actionable financial reports, insights, and strategic recommendations to the CFO, President, and Executive Leadership Team.
Manage the monthly close process to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
Prepare internal financial statements, cash flow forecasts (short and long-term), and quarterly financial projections.
Analyze financial performance and key trends; identify variances and opportunities for improvement.
Partner with Operations Managers to monitor and improve cash flow, operational efficiency, and financial performance. Collaborate with department heads to drive improvements in profit margins, cost control, and revenue growth.
Provide accurate and timely management of accounts receivable aging components, including billings and cash receipts; manage weekly funding reports and payroll-related filings.
Ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
Compliance & Controls
Ensure compliance with GAAP and all applicable federal, state, and local tax and payroll regulations.
Maintain and enforce robust internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
Lead audit preparation efforts and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
Strategic Support
Provide supporting data for financial planning for the company 's strategic analysis through financial modeling, forecasting, and scenario analysis to optimize performance, reduce risks, and maximize profitability.
Help define financial goals and develop tactical plans to support execution.
Respond to CFO as assigned with accurate and timely work to facilitate financial needs.
Additional Responsibilities
Collaborate with the CFO on corporate insurance policies and the company’s 401(k) plan procedures.
Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
Some travel may be required to support the business.
Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, plus CPA certification.
Minimum of 10 years of hands-on, progressive accounting experience, including prior controller-level responsibility.
In-depth knowledge of GAAP, financial forecasting, and regulatory compliance.
Proven leadership and communication skills with a track record of team development and cross-functional collaboration.
Strategic mindset to support the organization’s short-term and long-term goals.
Strong sense of integrity and commitment to professional conduct.
Attention to detail to ensure accuracy and reliability of financial information.
Strong analytical skills to interpret complex financial data and present actionable recommendations.
Experience in a privately held mid-size manufacturing, industrial, or service-based environment.
