Major Duties and Responsibilities

Manage, train, and evaluate current UPI sales team utilizing "Business Intelligence" type metrics

Manage and conduct weekly online sales meetings to update, challenge, mentor and educate the sales team with forward-thinking sales plan

Participate in joint sales calls with existing team for in-person visits, TEAMS video calls and audio calls as needed

Expand UPI sales network by hiring additional sales representatives throughout the US and developing additional customer partnerships with "deal making" capabilities

Cultivate, develop and visit with your own “key national accounts” directly

Drive overall business growth throughout all industry sectors within this defined hybrid role including top-line sales, volume in pounds and overall dollar margin. Focus on both expansion of existing accounts as well as creating new business.

Maintain responsibility for continual new business development; Work with ownership & senior management to create and disseminate annual marketing plan and building UPI Value Proposal.

Manage trade show presentations, create schedules, attend and follow up.

Use ERP-based sales management tools to enhance overall sales efficiencies

Expand UPI's national sales coverage and train sales staff on effectively presenting the UPI Value Proposition to win & sustain sales growth momentum

Collaborate with ownership to improve and expand our advertising programs and company website

Assist UPI ownership in introducing and training sales team on new products and intended industry and applications

Present monthly to UPI ownership to review various KPI’s

Foster & support a strong team culture throughout UPI

Travel to Key National Accounts and team visits with account managers throughout the US. (Balance of time can be a remote position or full time, in-house NC based)

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree is required. BS in one of the Life Sciences (Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, etc.) preferred.

Minimum 8 years prior management experience and calling on the targeted account base - especially scientists, chemists, purchasing managers and senior level management.

A successful track record of locating, negotiating and closing business deals with targeted customer base and new prospects.

Experience selling ingredients into the targeted industries.

Strong hunter mentality – Skilled in new business development, new account generation, enthusiastic, gritty, persistent, does not take “no” for an answer attitude.

Ability to interpret data and analytics to enhance sales team training and effectiveness.

Excellent communication, motivation, and time management skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with SAGE X3 and SAGE SEI a plus.
