Senior Principal Systems Engineer – Enduring Open Systems Solutions (EOSS) – Cedar Rapids, IA Collins Aerospace is seeking a
Senior Principal Systems Engineer
for the Enduring Open Systems Solutions (EOSS) Products Team located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This organization is responsible for leading system development of next generation Open System Architecture solutions which include open standards compliant modularity products and the ability to rapidly deploy new mission critical capabilities to the warfighter. The candidate will have opportunities to work directly with military customers, engineering and program management teams and hardware and software engineers.
You will be tasked with leading teams executing full product development cycles from requirements distillation and definition through product design and acceptance. Successful candidates will be responsible for performing under limited supervision all tasks normally associated with the System Engineering discipline as well as providing effective leadership for a team of System Engineers.
What You Will Do
Serve as a senior technology and systems engineering lead driving System engineering practices
Support defining system design requirements, including derived requirements, from customers
Contribute to guiding technical direction to understand, analyze, and develop the models, requirements, and designs using enterprise standard tools, processes, and industry best practices
Support engineering teams in the development of test & integration plans, procedures and generation of test flow diagrams
Support integration, verification, and validation tasks and activities
Conduct performance analyses and simulations as needed
Interact with multidisciplinary teams to achieve full product design (including hardware, software and firmware engineering)
Prepare presentations and brief to customers during program design reviews
Manage problems and issues requiring detailed information gathering, analysis, and investigation
Coach, review, and delegate work to lower-level professionals
Qualifications You Must Have
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
Active and transferable U.S. government issued secret security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Experience in customer test and integration activities
Experience in requirements management tools (e.g. DOORS)
Experience in Model-Based Systems Engineering (e.g., SysML, Cameo, Rhapsody)
Proficiency in modeling/simulation tools (e.g., Matlab)
Experience or exposure to leading a team with applications such as Microsoft Project, Confluence/JIRA, scrum master, AGILE or similar
Qualifications We Prefer
Proven track record in capturing customer requirements, operations concept development, deriving and tracing system and sub-system requirements
Comfort in interacting and engaging directly with customers and external business partners
Understanding of Systems Engineering support for Software, Hardware, and Firmware development and collaboration
Experience in leading a team in requirements development and system architecture
Familiarity with qualification processes and certification procedures
Effective communication skills with all levels of management, program team members, and external stakeholders
Competence in peer review processes, configuration, and change management
Experience conducting root cause analysis and corrective actions
Understanding of military concepts of operations or radio performance standards
Familiarity with design to cost / design for manufacturing methods and experience transitioning product to factory production
Special Access Program (SAP) clearance
