Responsibilities
Abstracts and codes physician professional services and diagnosis codes (inpatient admissions, outpatient procedures, diagnostic services). Assigns appropriate CPT and ICD9 codes. Completes coding and billing worksheet. Ensures charges are captured by performing reconciliations of procedure schedules and reports. Provides documentation feedback to physicians. Maintains coding reference information. Trains physicians and other staff regarding documentation, billing and coding. Reviews and communicates new or revised billing and coding guidelines and information. Attends meetings and communicates pertinent information to physicians and staff. Resolves pre-accounts receivable edits and identifies missed billing opportunities with physicians. Corrects billing errors, adds missing unbilled services, and provides missing data as appropriate. Drafts letters and coordinates appeals. Works with Revenue Cycle staff to obtain documentation as needed. Provides invoice disposition instruction and additional code/modifier information. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Required: RHIA, RHIT or CPC or CCS certification; 0 to 2 years of relevant experience. Preferred: Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Health Information Management from CAHIIM-accredited program; prior physician coding experience. Compliance and Standards
