Overview
Lead Teacher/Center Director role at Save the Children US. This position is responsible for the general and day-to-day operations of a Head Start/Early Head Start center or cluster of outlying centers, providing coverage to multiple classrooms, ensuring compliance with federal, state and local regulations, communicating with parents and the community, and supervising staff. The Center Director may be reassigned to various centers as deemed necessary for program operations. As a front-line representative of Save the Children, Center Directors are expected to ensure the safety and security of children and families, adhering to the agency’s values of Accountability, Ambition, Collaborations, Creativity and Integrity. Responsibilities
Plans and implements classroom activities based on the individual needs of the children and according to the appropriate level of development. Provides a balanced program of open learning and structured activities. Ensure that child development, disabilities, curriculum, and performance standards are adhered to in all programs. Maintain classroom discipline using developmentally appropriate techniques. Promote best practices in early childhood development based on Head Start Performance Standards, Creative Curriculum, and other prescribed curriculum used at Save the Children Head Start. Provide constant supervision of all children during activities indoors and outdoors; ensure a safe environment by setting up safe indoor and outdoor spaces. Plan for and equip indoor and outdoor areas to meet children’s developmental and safety needs within budget. Assist Education Manager with the transition of Head Start children at the center. Participate in an individualized continuing education plan including CPR and First Aid. Conduct and document home visits, conduct parent-teacher conferences as needed, and plan family activities to encourage family involvement. Maintain documentation as required by the agency. Participate in school readiness committee and travel as needed throughout Head Start areas. Arrange family fairs, events, and activities for the center. Responsible for monthly safety checks, fire drills, and updating safety logs. Investigate child or staff incidents, ensure forms are complete, and notify the appropriate supervisor. Attend IEP meetings as needed or requested. Receive and refer to verbal and written complaints to Family/Community Partnership Manager, supporting the center-level complaint procedure. Develop and facilitate positive community presence, networking opportunities, volunteer participation, and educational awareness efforts about program needs. Monitor compliance with applicable local, state and federal rules, regulations and standards, including contracts and health, safety, and licensing regulations. Maintain confidentiality with respect to Head Start children, families, and staff. Submit verbal and/or written reports to the immediate supervisor or Head Start Director on center activities and status. Monitor employee on-site file requirements and keep them secure in locked files; assist Family/Community Partnership Manager with children’s files. Contribute to documentation for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) to support food delivery. Serve as co-chair of the School Readiness Team and support the chair of the committee. Attend to occupational safety, universal precautions, and prevention of contamination. Supervise the Assistant Teacher and other center staff, providing guidance as needed. Collaborate with the Early Childhood Education Team to schedule classroom observations and identify needs. Develop individual mentor coaching plans with goals based on observations; support staff in screenings, assessments and individualization in classrooms. Provide constructive feedback and resources to teaching staff for learning and growth; train new teaching staff and provide ongoing support. Plan and present small group workshops on relevant child development topics based on program monitoring outcomes. Arrange substitutes for the center and model supervisory authority to ensure compliance with Head Start standards. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in early childhood development or related field, plus at least two (2) years of relevant experience Proven work experience in program operations implementation and monitoring Thorough knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards and best practices in early childhood education Knowledge of general business practices including supervision, accounts payable, inventory control, and risk management Strong communication and collaboration skills with individuals and teams at all levels Ability to establish and maintain relationships with agency staff, children, parents, and outside agencies Professional proficiency in spoken and written English; proficiency in MS Office Experience overseeing day-to-day program operations in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations Strong time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish or other languages used by children and families) Additional Qualifications
Physical ability to perform up to 50 pounds occasionally, with related duties; ability to sit, crawl, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift and grasp; may require repetitive motions and computer use Clear pre-employment background checks and health requirements as required by state regulations Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle per Save the Children policies Current or former Head Start/Early Head Start parents may receive preference for employment vacancies for which they are qualified Compensation
The base pay for this position starts at $53,770. Actual base salary may vary based on experience, credentials, and other relevant qualifications. About Us
