Overview
Mechanical engineers design and advise on the building and repair of machines, tools and installations. They work across a wide range of industries including manufacturing, military, aerospace, automotive, commercial products, and engineering firms. They coordinate maintenance and repair services, train technicians, investigate problems, and study ways to improve manufacturing and energy production. They contribute to the entire production cycle from research and development to testing and installation, and troubleshoot malfunctions in key processes.
Responsibilities
Design mechanical equipment, machines, tools, components and products for manufacture.
Design and manage plants and systems.
Study the environmental and safety aspects of planned work.
Prepare plans and drawings of machines or machine parts.
Prepare and calculate cost estimates for jobs.
Manage project labour and the delivery of materials and equipment.
Establish standards and policies according to engineering principles and safety regulations.
Perform safety and quality inspections; prepare reports.
Oversee requirements for new designs, surveys and maintenance schedules.
Designing and developing prototypes.
Analyzing and testing prototypes and each revision of a device.
Supervising the development of computer-aided design (CAD) project drawings from junior team members.
Developing, initiating and managing all phases of projects.
Applies theory and principles of mechanical design to modify, test, and develop centrifugal pumps, pump components, and systems.
Produces approval drawings as per internal and customer specifications.
Produces drawings and models based upon current engineering projects.
Creates new or revised bill of materials as per internal or customer specifications.
Qualifications A Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related engineering degree is required.
