Overview

The Regional Advancement Senior Director is a key leadership role responsible for driving success in a high-priority territory during the University’s transformative capital campaign. This position reports directly to the Assistant Vice President and/or Executive Director of Regional Advancement. The Senior Director will manage a standard portfolio of approximately 125 prospects plus 30–40 additional high-value Major Gift prospects to achieve ambitious campaign goals and exceed performance metrics. This role may oversee multiple campaign committees and provide supervision, training, and mentorship to a subordinate team as appropriate. Location: Rochester, NY (University of Rochester). Fundraising Maintain a portfolio of 125 prospects plus an additional 30–40 larger Major Gift Prospects Maintain major gift pipeline to exceed team metrics Hire, train, and ensure new team members exceed metrics Expectation of higher metrics annually Fundraising strategy Create strategies for soliciting donors capable of contributing large major gifts, including gifts in support of the capital campaign Plan, manage, execute, and steward strategy for each prospect Prospect Management Travel within designated regions to initiate or strengthen relationships with major gift prospects Engage key volunteers, faculty, university leadership, parents, and alumni Collaborate with Advancement colleagues to identify new major gift prospects annually Manage relationships with prospects that include University Deans, Department Chairs, and Faculty Programmatic Work May oversee multiple Regional Campaign Committee activities and collaborate with internal and external partners Engage in academic, engagement, and principal gifts as applicable Respond to donor inquiries and coordinate follow-up actions for gifts Collaborate with stewardship and donor relations offices to ensure appropriate follow-up Develop expertise in major gift fundraising, estate giving, and alternative gifting Create and manage campaign committee materials and coordinate meetings to prepare members to support the campaign Strategic Planning Coordinate with internal and external partners to secure resources for university leadership's vision Collaborate with senior leaders and volunteers to create prospect strategies aligned with school priorities Develop and maintain a sophisticated strategy for multiple campaign committees, including volunteer management Leadership Project Work - Regional Team Estate Planning Expert And Mentor Specialist Provide oversight and training to ensure all regional team members are proficient in estate planning information and best practices Lead strategic estate planning initiatives and track campaign gifts for large regional prospects Offer on-site support and mentorship to new Major Gift Officers across regions Develop and implement onboarding processes with regular check-ins for new hires Mentor and develop MGOs, with weekly check-ins and an open-door policy Minimum Education & Experience 7 years of development experience at a university or college Supervisory experience with exempt staff (preferred) Or an equivalent combination of education and experience Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with volunteers and solicit annual gifts Strong collaboration skills Ability to work well with faculty Ability to manage complex projects and attention to detail Strong written and oral communication skills Positive attitude, independence, creativity Familiarity with office productivity software and interest in learning management information systems The University of Rochester is committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming culture to advance its mission.
