As a member of our System Safety team you will report to the Manager of Safety and Reliability and will help define and apply the safety standards for our DoD/Hybrid programs. You will help us provide airline-like safety while enabling urban air transportation at a price accessible to all, setting the bar for the nascent advanced air mobility industry.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with various engineering disciplines to design high-reliability, safety-critical systems for a hybrid/electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft
Take ownership of the safety requirements and safety assessments of one or more vehicle systems, including Flight Controls and Powertrain systems
Participate in or perform vehicle-level installation safety or other common cause analyses
Participate in the definition of safety requirements and safety assessments at the vehicle level
Represent System Safety in multi-disciplinary decision making and regulatory compliance activities under supervision of leadership
Contribute to the System Safety processes and work methods
Participate in regulatory compliance planning and demonstration activities under supervision of team leadership and the Certification and Test organization
Develop and execute test plans in a simulation lab environment
Perform Zonal Safety Inspections in the aircraft
Qualifications General
Collaborative mindset
Excellent technical writing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
Passion for learning and problem solving
BS, MS, or PhD in engineering or a related technical degree
Technical
5+ years experience as System Safety Engineer
Experience with safety analyses and safety requirements for flight controls and powertrain systems
Experience with all phases of aircraft development from concept to entry into service
Experience performing safety analyses commonly used in civil and military aviation
Experience creating, validating, and verifying aircraft and system-level safety requirements
Experience being personally accountable for safety activities on civil/military aircraft certification programs
Experience developing and executing test plans in a simulation environment
Detailed understanding of civil and military aviation standards, practices, and regulations
Bonus Qualifications
Experience with NX, SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar CAD tools for drawing and 3D model reviews
Experience conducting physical aircraft installation examinations and inspections
Experience with type certification under 14 CFR Part 23 or Part 27 or military approvals
Experience with ARP4754A development programs
Experience working on Flight Controls or Powertrain systems (electric motors, high voltage power systems) in automotive or equivalent industry
