As an Associate General Counsel, you will be an individual contributor in our Legal, Regulatory Affairs and Compliance group. You\'ll help support our self-funded customers in meeting their regulatory requirements. This position is responsible for supporting self-funded customers by performing a mental health parity analysis, and will also support outside law firms and consultants who are performing mental health parity analysis for our mutual customers. You will have a high level of interaction with internal clients and business areas, as well as external customers and their consultants and attorneys. This role offers remote work from anywhere within the U.S.; for hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, a minimum of four days per week in the office is required. Primary responsibilities, qualifications, and expectations are described below. Primary Responsibilities
Counseling on mental health parity related inquiries and assisting with parity related analysis Collaborating with clinical services, Optum Behavioral Health, and other departments to prepare mental health parity analyses Communicating with internal business areas, external customers, and their consultants and attorneys Managing recurring projects on varying timelines with the flexibility to take on additional work as needed Maintaining and communicating sensitive or confidential information in accordance with internal policies and procedures Drafting, revising, and proofreading documents Required Qualifications
Juris Doctorate degree 2+ years of legal experience Relevant legal experience in health law, commercial healthcare insurance, and/or healthcare provider legal support Proficiency with MS Office Suite (MS Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point) Proven solid verbal and written communication skills Preferred Qualifications
2+ years of experience working in health care and/or health insurance 2+ years of experience with mental health parity compliance Experience responding to inquiries from a variety of stakeholders (external customers, executives and regulators) Experience with regulatory agencies, providers, and/or clinical delivery Experience with self-funded customers Proven success in collaborating across a matrixed business and legal environment Demonstrated understanding of business problems related to assigned legal projects and ability to evaluate and determine appropriate legal course of action to meet business unit needs Demonstrated exceptional attention to detail and strong work ethic Ability to work effectively in an ambiguous and fast-paced, results-oriented workplace Ability to prioritize and work under time constraints Comfortable taking ownership and accountability for projects Ability to build and maintain rapport with superiors, peers, subordinates, and external contacts High degree of personal integrity Ability to work independently and handle confidential matters with discretion Compensation and Benefits
Pay is based on factors including local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution. The salary range for this role is $110,200 to $188,800 annually, based on full-time employment. We comply with all applicable minimum wage laws. Equal Employment Opportunity
