Fire Protection Engineer

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position Performs design, review and oversight services for fire protection and life safety systems for Military Construction and Civil Works projects.
Duties
Reviews major studies, scopes of work, preliminary and final design plans, and specifications prepared in-house or by Architect-Engineer (A-E) firms
Assists in the implementation of innovative strategies with a multidisciplinary or cross-functional teams on multi-phase projects.
Evaluates submittals provided by contractors and A-E firms for compliance with federal accessibility, building, and fire codes, some of which may require the incumbent to exercise broad latitude to interpret new or revised professional standards
Develops original plans, design analyses and specifications for fire protection, fire alarm and detection, mass notification, and life safety features of design work accomplished in-house.
Provides detailed design analysis reports in accordance with UFC 3-600-01, Design: Fire Protection Engineering for Facilities, for designs prepared in-house and reviews reports developed by A-E firms.
Performs site visits for proposed and current projects to acquire field data necessary to support design and/or review.
Serves as a mentor to other Fire Protection Engineers in the district, division, and other governmental entities (such as NGA, DVA or other associated Federal Customers) as needed or on request.
Provides on the job training to junior staff regarding design analysis, planning, and associated Fire Protection codes, USACE regulations and policy.
Requirements
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 15% for official duties/training.
One year trial/probationary period may be required.
The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
Position requires active, valid license as a Professional Engineer in a state, the D.C., or a territory of the U.S. obtained by passing the fire protection exam administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying.
