Associate Director -T&D Technical Services Position overview: The Associate Director - Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Technical Services plays a key role in leading, developing, proposing, and delivering solutions related to the Transmission and Distribution energy grids. This is a senior advisory/consulting role that requires analytical, creative, and interpersonal skills to deliver effective regulatory and general strategy engagements. The Associate Director-T&D Technical Services leads significant projects and participates as part of a technical team, while also organizing tasks and schedules to deliver high-quality client-ready work. The role represents Guidehouse and our clients in multiple industry forums.

What You Will Do The Associate Director-T&D Technical Services will function as an advisory consultant and must manage substantial business analyses and client-ready deliverables. You will demonstrate poise and business maturity in client environments and lead or contribute to work across large, complex systems.

Key Responsibilities

Lead competitive intelligence and infrastructure advisory services throughout North America

Assess the impact of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and other federal/state energy policies

Serve as the principal technical solution delivery leader on projects related to electrical transmission system planning studies to determine transmission requirements, and generation additions & retirements

Understand and apply transmission planning concepts, practices, and procedures; identify appropriate Transmission Planning reliability criteria

Oversee and, at times, perform power systems analyses including transmission planning feasibility studies, System Impact Studies, and Generator Interconnection Studies

Demonstrate proficiency in Steady State, Dynamic Stability Simulation, Voltage Stability Simulation, and Short Circuit Analysis

Study thermal overloads and recommend mitigations and transmission upgrades

Oversee and develop dynamic models for conventional and inverter-based resources (IBRs) and apply them to stability/transient analyses

Mentor junior consultants in energy markets, business development, and client management

What You Will Need

Due to the nature of client engagements, applicants must be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident

Bachelor’s degree in electrical or power systems engineering with 7+ years post-graduation experience in the Bulk Electric System; or Master’s degree with 5+ years; or PhD with 3+ years of management consulting experience in utilities focused on transmission planning

Post-graduation experience using tools such as PSLF, POWERWORLD Simulator, PSSE, ASPEN, TARA, CAPE, DSA Tools, PSCAD or EMTP

In-depth knowledge of transmission and distribution planning and operations

Familiarity with FERC, NERC, and state regulatory requirements

Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Ability to travel and work onsite at Guidehouse or client locations

What Would Be Nice To Have

Proximity to a Guidehouse Office or client location

Post-graduation consulting experience in utilities

Experience with transmission and distribution planning and operations

Knowledge of resource interconnection and expansion planning practices

Familiarity with transmission development and competitive development

Working knowledge of ISO/RTO operations (e.g., CAISO)

Compensation The annual salary range for this position is $122,000.00 - $203,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors including skill sets, experience, training, security clearances, licensure, and other business needs.
