The primary location of this position is the Cullowhee, NC campus. The Department of Political Science and Public Affairs at Western Carolina University is seeking a tenure-track position in American government and politics at the rank of Assistant Professor. The anticipated start date is August 2026. This is a nine-month position with the possibility of summer teaching. The successful candidate will teach six courses per year on the Cullowhee campus, including sections of Introduction to American Government and upper-level undergraduate courses in Congress and the U.S. Presidency. Responsibilities
Teach six courses per academic year on the Cullowhee, NC campus, including Introduction to American Government and upper-level courses on Congress and the U.S. Presidency. Contribute to teaching, scholarship, and service within an accomplished and growing department. Engage in scholarly activities and participate in service to the university, region, and profession as appropriate for a tenure-track position. Minimum Qualifications
PhD in Political Science or related field from an accredited institution. ABD candidates will be considered with degree conferral by December 30, 2026. A promising research agenda related to Congress and/or the presidency. Preferred Qualifications
Prior university teaching experience and the ability and desire to perform service to the university, region, and profession. Position Type
