We are looking for a driven and capable
Energy Marshall
to support us with the development and commissioning of a major hyperscale data center project for one of the top technology clients in the world. This is a client-facing role that requires strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, the ability to self-direct, client representation, and an emphasis on rigorous electrical safety management within a complex construction environment. A strong background in electrical systems, data center commissioning, and energy safety protocols is required.
Responsibilities
Energy Isolation & Safety Management:
Oversee and assure the implementation of the project's Energy Isolation and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) programs, ensuring compliance with company policies, OSHA, NFPA 70E, and other regulatory standards.
Review, coordinate, and approve complex LOTO permits and isolation procedures for construction, commissioning, and operational activities.
Serve as the independent authority to stop any unsafe work practices regarding energy isolation.
Conduct daily walk-downs of energized and de-energized areas to identify live circuits, exposed conductors, grounding issues, or potential hazards.
Conduct regular audits and inspections of energy isolation practices on site.
Coordination & Collaboration:
Work closely with the General Contractor (GC), subcontractors, commissioning teams, and client representatives to manage and coordinate all energy-related activities, including electrical shutdowns, power-ups, and re-energization efforts.
Participate in High-Risk Activity (HRA) planning meetings related to energy isolation.
Establish and manage a centralized LOTO process with all site entities.
Incident Response:
Lead the investigation of electrical incidents, near-misses, or unsafe conditions; review root cause analyses and approve preventive and corrective actions.
Act as a subject matter expert for energy isolation incident investigations and near-miss reporting.
Implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
Documentation & Training:
Ensure all necessary documentation (SoWs, MOPs, scripts) are reviewed and all sources of energy are identified. Maintain records of LOTO permits, electrical safety inspections, and incident documentation. Provide ongoing training and guidance to site personnel on LOTO procedures and electrical safety practices. Verify qualifications, training, and PPE of personnel performing energized work. Ensure compliance with electrical safety regulations and company standards. Oversee LOTO permit issuance, application, and removal to guarantee safe isolation of electrical systems before work proceeds. Manage and audit LOTO procedures for OSHA compliance. Review and update electrical safety policies and isolation procedures. Collaborate with commissioning engineers, contractors, and site safety officers to integrate electrical safety into project execution. Lead toolbox talks, training sessions, and awareness programs. Manage and track compliance with electrical safety certifications, permits, and isolation documentation. Establish and maintain relationships with clients and contractors, and present safety performance updates and strategic recommendations. Support electrical safety innovation and continuous improvement across sites.
Qualifications:
12+ years of experience in construction and commissioning with a strong focus on electrical systems and safety and hazardous energy control within large-scale industrial or hyperscale data center construction projects. Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline. Expertise in electrical safety standards (including NFPA 70E) and regulations (e.g., OSHA 1910.147 for LOTO). Proven experience implementing and managing LOTO programs in complex environments. Demonstrated ability to identify, assess, and mitigate electrical hazards during energization and system turnover. Experience coordinating electrical isolation procedures across multidisciplinary teams. Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Energy Manager (CEM); NFPA 70E training; electrician certification or supervisory-level Safety Officer certification; prior data center commissioning, high-voltage environments, or mission-critical facility experience; additional safety certifications such as NFPA 70E Trainer, CHST, or CSP are advantageous.
