About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced

HR Manager

to support a growing

CPA firm

in northern New Jersey. You’ll own the full HR lifecycle—talent acquisition, onboarding, performance management, total rewards, employee relations, and compliance—with a sharp focus on the needs of public accounting (busy-season staffing, billable-hour models, campus recruiting, and credential support). What You’ll Do

Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning Lead recruitment for tax, audit, advisory, and admin roles (staff–partner track) Build pipelines (campus, lateral, referral, passive) and manage a structured interview process Partner with practice leaders on headcount forecasts, busy-season coverage, and succession plans Onboarding, Engagement & Culture Run new-hire onboarding, 30/60/90-day check-ins, and ongoing engagement initiatives Drive recognition, mentorship, and wellness programs tailored to CPA firm seasonality Own employee communications and change management for policies and initiatives Performance Management & Development Implement review cycles, goal setting, and competency frameworks for public accounting roles Coordinate CPE/CPA exam support, tuition reimbursement, and technical training calendars Coach managers on feedback, performance conversations, and career paths Total Rewards & HR Operations Administer compensation bands, annual merit/bonus cycles, benefits open enrollment, and vendor relationships Improve HRIS/ATS data integrity, reporting (turnover, time-to-fill, DEI, utilization), and process automation Oversee payroll changes and ensure alignment with firm policies and applicable laws Employee Relations & Compliance Serve as a trusted advisor on ER matters; investigate and resolve issues promptly and fairly Maintain compliance with federal/state regulations (NJ/NY), handbook updates, and audit-ready HR files Manage workplace safety, leaves (FMLA/NJFLA), accommodations, and policy adherence What You’ll Bring

Required:

Current/recent

CPA firm

HR experience 5–8+ years of progressive HR experience; 2–3+ years in a manager or lead role Proven success recruiting and retaining public accounting talent (tax, audit, advisory) Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment law (NJ/NY), and compensation/benefits Excellent stakeholder management, discretion, and data-driven decision-making Experience with HRIS/ATS (e.g., Paylocity, ADP, BambooHR, UKG, Greenhouse, JazzHR, or similar) Nice to Have:

SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP or PHR/SPHR; experience with campus programs, CPE logistics, and DEI initiatives
