UC Davis Health Informatics . #CA-TS To provide independent advanced level nurse practitioner clinical expertise to patients and their families on an on-going basis. This includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and specialty protocols (e.g. chemotherapy) as defined by standardized procedures or independently based on licensure. This may include non-invasive or invasive procedures, surgical procedures, including operative first assist per approved standardized procedures as identified by the list available on the Medical Staff Office. Patient management decisions are independent where appropriate after assessment of the patient and interdependent with consultation with an attending or other member of the team. NPs are expected to act as an expert resource person for health care providers including nurses, residents and other ancillary staff. Provides patient care in a team based care environment to a diversified patient population. Applies knowledge, experience and judgment to determine the importance of a situation, set priorities, and use abstract thought to evaluate clinical situations. Participates in patient and staff education. Demonstrates leadership skills. Demonstrates accountability for own practices as defined by the Nurse Practice Act. Minimum Qualifications
Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing License California Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) without restriction Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Certificate within 3 months of hire American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR National NP board certification in aligned specialty with the practice area Graduation with a master’s degree, DNP or PhD in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing Graduation from an accredited Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) program One year or greater experience as a nurse practitioner Minimum of 3 years experience working on cardiac unit in acute care or critical care unit as RN Minimum of 3 years working as first assist with endoscopic vein harvesting in cardiac surgery Endoscopic vein harvesting experience required Ability to cope with personal stress experienced by team members, other professionals, and caretakers Excellent verbal and written communication skills Judgement skills to effectively meet the needs of patients Self-direction and organizational skills to function in an independent role Ability to meet minimum standards for hospital credentialing and billing standards as a billable provider Preferred Qualifications
One year or greater recent clinical experience in specialty care of the hiring department 5 years working as first assist with endoscopic vein harvesting in cardiac surgery Key Responsibilities

The Heart and Vascular Center (HVC) at UC Davis serves the Cardiac and Vascular patient population of Northern California and the surrounding areas. Care is provided for both the inpatient and outpatient population. Further, the HVC provides both invasive interventional care as well as non-invasive diagnostic care. Department Specific Job Scope
This position reports directly to the Heart Center Advanced Practice Nurse Manager. As a member of the Cardiothoracic Surgery team, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an expert in the perioperative management of patients undergoing cardiothoracic procedures and participates in the medical management of this population across the spectrum of care. The NP will act as first, second, or third assistant in cardiac and/or thoracic surgeries under the supervision of an approved supervising physician. The incumbent will provide care and guidance to inpatients and will attend outpatient clinics. The NP will perform and train others in endoscopic vein harvesting procedures, placing drains, placing catheters, closing major and minor incisions, recording post-op orders and progress notes and assisting in the transport and care of patients from the operating room to the recovery room or intensive care unit. The NP will give guidance and direction to team members for daily work assignments and act as a resource for physicians, PAs, house staff and nursing staff. Additional responsibilities include research and program development, professional practice development, training and education, maintaining statistical database, participating in continuous quality improvement (CQI), tracking mortality and morbidity and providing reports for physicians and assisting in equipment procurement as necessary.
