Clinical Pharmacist (Casual/PRN)

– Nemours Children’s Health, Orlando, Florida.
PRN Clinical Pharmacist position with hospital experience that has availability to work weekdays in addition to some weekends. Shift hours consist of 8- and 10-hour AM and PM shifts, in addition to an every 4th weekend rotation. Pediatric hospital and IV room pharmacy experience preferred.
Responsibilities
Reviews, interprets, and verifies medication orders for accuracy using pharmacology principles, including pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, and oversees delivery and preparation of unit dose and parenteral pharmaceuticals.
Adheres to policies of the pharmacy department and complies with State and Federal regulations concerning Controlled Substances.
Provides pediatric pharmaceutical services to optimize drug usage and therapeutic outcomes; advises physicians on drug therapy issues, drug interactions, toxicity, and dosing considerations.
Provides accurate, timely drug information to professional staff and patients/families as needed.
Coordinates activities of pharmacy technicians involved in preparation, labeling, and delivery of medications, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.
Reads, extracts, and interprets information in patient charts accurately.
Participates in quality improvement and medication use review activities; collects data, conducts quality monitors, and maintains logs and documentation.
Promotes use of the Nemours Children’s Hospital formulary; converts non-formulary orders when possible and facilitates non-formulary drug procurement when necessary.
Establishes and maintains open communication throughout the hospital; engages patients and families in medication discussions, planning, and education to support patient and family centered care.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; PharmD preferred.
Minimum of six (6) months experience required. Prior work experience may include roles as a Pharmacy Technician, Pharmacist Intern, or residency; residency is equivalent to 2 years of work experience.
Hospital pharmacy experience preferred; pediatric hospital experience preferred.
Currently licensed by the State of Florida or legally eligible.
American Heart Association BLS required within 90 days of hire.
Unit dose training, IV, TPN, and Oncology experience; Drug Storage, Distribution, and Automation Technology Systems. EPIC experience preferred; Pyxis experience preferred.
