Overview
Senior Manager, IT Operations & Security – Lead and scale Element Science's IT infrastructure, daily operations, and security posture. Manage end-user support, foundational systems, and drive the implementation of new IT and security infrastructure (e.g., SSO, MDM, EDR, cloud migrations) to support rapid growth. This is a hands-on leadership role with a focus on reliability, scalability, and security. We have a hybrid office with potential travel between San Francisco and Redwood City. Responsibilities
IT Operations & Infrastructure Management: Lead and manage IT operations, including help desk, network infrastructure, and system administration for a hybrid cloud/on-prem environment. Infrastructure Projects: Lead and execute critical projects such as network upgrades, cloud migrations (AWS/Azure), and new enterprise system implementations. Operations Framework: Develop and implement a scalable IT operations framework with ticketing systems, SLAs, and performance metrics to ensure exceptional service delivery. Hands-on Management: Perform hands-on management and troubleshooting to ensure high availability and performance. Vendor Management: Manage IT vendor relationships and technology procurement to ensure cost-effective, strategic investments. IT Security & Compliance Management
Design, implement, and manage security tools and systems (SSO, MDM, EDR, firewalls, endpoint protection, vulnerability management) to operate the company’s security posture. Lead IT response to security incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure IT systems and processes comply with regulatory requirements (HIPAA, 21 CFR Part 11). Implement and enforce IT security policies, procedures, and best practices across the organization. Team Leadership & Strategic Planning
Operate as a hands-on leader, mentoring team members while establishing the operational foundation for the department. As the company scales, recruit, hire, and develop a high-performing IT team. Develop and execute a long-term IT Operations roadmap aligned with business goals, focusing on scalability, automation, and continuous improvement. Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to inform strategic recommendations and drive innovation. Physical Demands
Sit for long periods during travel between Bay Area offices (Redwood City and San Francisco). Walk frequently within facilities. Crouch, kneel, stoop, balance, and reach; lift up to 40 lbs. Specific vision abilities required: color vision, near and far vision, depth perception. Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Experience:
7+ years of progressive, hands-on IT experience focused on infrastructure and systems administration. Leadership:
2-5 years in a management or lead role, with ability to build, mentor, and scale technical teams. Technical Expertise:
Demonstrated experience leading IT infrastructure projects (cloud migrations, network upgrades, new system implementations such as SSO, MDM, EDR). Strong knowledge of Windows and Mac in a corporate environment. Hands-on network management experience (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and security appliances (firewalls). Proficiency with Google Workspace, Box, Microsoft 365, Slack, Jira, AWS, or Azure.
Security Acumen:
Experience with incident response, vulnerability management, and security tool administration. Understanding of information security frameworks and compliance (e.g., NIST, HIPAA).
Skills:
Excellent leadership, communication, and presentation skills. Strong project management and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strategic mindset with focus on continuous improvement and process optimization.
Preferred Qualifications
Relevant IT or Security certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+/Security+, CISSP, CISM, ITIL). Direct experience in regulated industries (e.g., medical devices, life sciences). Benefits
