Overview
Director, Regional Affairs is a key leadership role reporting to the VP State and Regional Affairs. Responsible for leading the Tampa Electric Regional Affairs team and overseeing stakeholder strategies for Tampa Electric service areas. Must translate strategic plans into specific company objectives and metrics. Position details: Title: Director, Regional Affairs; Company: Tampa Electric Company; State and City: Florida - Tampa; Shift: 8 Hr. X 5 Days. Primary Duties And Responsibilities
Lead and develop a results-driven Regional Affairs management team delivering on company goals across local government relations, economic development, stakeholder engagement, community investment, operations and customer support. Develop regional stakeholder engagement strategy plans and measures of success to manage relationships with political, economic development, regulatory, governmental, and industry stakeholders; identify risks and opportunities and align resources to shape positive outcomes while maintaining open communication with stakeholders at local, state, regional, and federal levels. Lead the development of the Company’s Community Investment strategy, including contributions, participation, and communications; oversee governance of philanthropic and grant programs, and promote employee volunteerism and engagement. Align Company interests with key economic development organizations to promote earnings and community growth; develop communication strategies to support growth opportunities, and advise on local, regional, and state policy and business intelligence. Participate actively in the political process; lead the team in identifying and managing political and reputational concerns or opportunities in assigned areas to shape positive outcomes. Lead the regional franchise enactment/renewal process; provide strategic guidance on municipal or operational concerns and support operations on issues related to rights-of-way, permitting, franchise agreements, relocation of facilities, emergencies, and customer matters. Provide proactive public affairs review of strategic initiatives and projects to identify stakeholder concerns and guide engagement and outreach. Supervision
Direct supervision: Leads a team of Regional Affairs Managers covering Tampa Electric’s service territory. Relationships
Internal: Interact with Emera FL, TSI, Tampa Electric, Peoples Gas, officers, senior management, and teams across companies. External: Develop relationships with government entities and officials, chambers of commerce, economic development organizations, neighborhood and civic associations, political groups, business leaders, and philanthropic organizations. Qualifications
Education
Required: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college in Business, Political Science, Engineering or related field. Licenses/Certifications
Required: Valid Florida Driver’s License or eligibility to acquire one. Related Experience
Required: Minimum ten years of work experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this position, including four years of leadership experience. Experience building relationships with community leaders, government officials, internal management or internal business units; experience with governmental relations, stakeholder outreach and engagement, public affairs, and economic development. Preferred: utility industry experience with local governments and agencies, community groups, utility planning, or policy; experience leading a team of government or community relations professionals. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Required: Knowledge of governmental processes at local, state, or federal level; ability to understand complex regulatory and legislative issues; knowledge of the utility sector. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, with strong presentation ability. Leadership Competencies
