Visiting Assistant Professor of Anthropological Archaeology, Department of Anthropology (R0008280) Wake Forest University invites applications for a one-year, non-tenure-track Visiting Assistant Professor in anthropological archaeology in the Department of Anthropology, with an effective start date of July 1, 2026. The position is contingent on university funding.

Qualifications An earned Ph.D. in anthropology is required; ABD candidates are invited to apply. Qualified applicants should demonstrate the ability to teach undergraduate courses in archaeology and contribute to an academic environment that fosters learning and growth for all its stakeholders.

Position Summary The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses including Introduction to Archaeology and may teach a course in North American archaeology or their area of expertise. Teaching load will be 3/3. Evidence of teaching excellence and commitment to the training and professional development of undergraduates are required.

About the Department Wake Forest’s four-field anthropology department includes nine permanent faculty and three professional museum staff. A significant portion of majors participate in field- or lab-based research, and many present at professional conferences. The Lam Museum of Anthropology supports department-related activities. The department maintains interdisciplinary relationships with programs such as Latin American and Latino Studies, Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies, Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Linguistics, African American Studies, American Ethnic Studies, Environmental Studies, and Cultural Heritage and Preservation Studies.
