Essential Job Functions

Handle processing and maintenance of child support/paternity cases by reviewing case type, inputting information, and preparing and issuing summons, notices, or writs; calculate related fees.

Manage collection, review, and docketing of case file documents pre- and post-court hearings.

Assist the public and attorneys with information about case status and Clerk's Office procedures.

Perform cashier duties and other duties related to the child support/paternity division as needed.

Maintain caseload by inputting entries into cases, verify case numbers and parties on pleadings.

Process and maintain newly filed paternity/support cases, including intake, filing fees, and issuing notices or summons.

Minimum Qualifications Education:

High school diploma (or GED equivalent).

Experience:

One (1) year of work experience, preferably in court operations or in the fields of criminal justice, parole and probation, legal or financial services.

Note:

A Bachelor's Degree may substitute the required work experience. A Paralegal/Associates Degree or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience. A Paralegal Certificate may substitute the required work experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

General office practices, procedures, and equipment; standard legal forms and documents used in the Judiciary.

Basic English and arithmetic (spelling, punctuation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

Customer service and handling problems tactfully and patiently.

Typing on a personal computer; accuracy and attention to detail.

Use standard office equipment, word processing, spreadsheets, database software, and related tools; communicate clearly and effectively with judges, the public, police agencies, attorneys, and other court personnel (verbal and written).

Understand and follow departmental rules, regulations, and procedures; exercise tact, diplomacy, and impartiality; follow procedures and protocols; use proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

Exercise independent judgment in interpreting and applying policy, procedure, rule, law, or regulation to a situation.

Physical Requirements Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects, including the human body. Sitting for long periods; walking/standing as required.
