Overview
Role focuses on designing and delivering data architecture for a unified data platform, including data ingestion, transformation, operations, and consumption across the data lifecycle. The candidate should have extensive experience with cloud data architectures and Databricks, and be capable of leading architectural initiatives with measurable business impact.
Responsibilities
Design the end-to-end architecture of a unified data platform covering data ingestion, transformation, operations, and consumption.
Lead and mentor architecture talent within the respective sector and participate in Enterprise Architecture activities.
Deliver architecture initiatives aligned with business strategies; own end-to-end architecture accountability.
Develop architecture roadmaps and delivery blueprints for technology design.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders and manage customer relationships.
Deliver architectural initiatives in digital, cloud, and open-source technologies for large transformational engagements.
Hands-on development: design and develop applications using Databricks; experience with Azure, AWS, or other cloud technologies.
Advanced understanding of Spark architecture (Spark Core, Spark SQL, DataFrames, Spark Streaming, RDD caching, MLlib).
Proficiency in Python/SQL or Spark/Scala; strong data modeling skills (conceptual, logical, physical).
Familiarity with data integration, data warehousing, and big data technologies; act as a subject matter expert.
Maintain awareness of new and emerging technologies and their potential applications for services and products.
Architect cloud-centric solutions using IaaS, PaaS, SaaS; design for DR and mission-critical components.
Experience with multi-tier system design for large enterprises; consider security and governance implications.
Experience with requirements gathering and working with cross-functional teams.
Mandatory Skills
Azure Databricks, Azure Data Lake, Ansible, SQL, Terraform, Kafka, Azure CLI, Databricks CLI, PowerShell and/or Bash.
Required Qualifications
Excellent coding skills in Python or Scala (preference for Python).
10+ years of experience in architecture, design, implementation, and analytics within the Data Engineering domain (total 12+ years).
Designed and implemented at least 2–3 end-to-end Databricks projects.
3+ years of Databricks experience covering components such as Delta Lake, dbConnect, DB API 2.0, SQL Endpoint Photon, Unity Catalog, Databricks workflows, security, governance, and data security.
Strong data warehousing knowledge with governance and security standards for Databricks.
Experience optimizing clusters and integrating with cloud services.
Proven ability to design complex data pipelines (batch and streaming) and strong SQL and Spark-SQL skills.
Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and services like ADLS/S3, ADF/Lambda, and cloud databases.
Strong unit and integration testing skills; ability to communicate with cross-platform teams.
Willingness to learn new skills and upskill as needed; experience with Databricks CI/CD and composable architecture.
Experience with ML tools such as MLflow, Databricks ML, Azure ML, AWS SageMaker, etc.
Experience delivering solutions using SAFe Agile, Waterfall, or Iterative models.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of REST APIs; cost distribution considerations; migration to a unified data platform.
Familiarity with DBT and DevSecOps including Docker and Kubernetes.
Experience with data ingestion tools (Azure Data Factory, SSIS, Pentaho, Alteryx) and visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI).
Demonstrated knowledge of industry trends and standards.
