$70.00 USD Hourly - $75.00 USD Hourly About The Role The role is to architect, scale, and maintain a unified design system that powers consistent, accessible, and high-quality user experiences across web and mobile platforms. This position requires systems thinking, visual design expertise, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to build scalable UI component libraries that evolve with user needs and technology.
Responsibilities
Design System Development: Build and maintain robust design system libraries across platforms (Web, iOS, Android), including foundational design layers.
Manage a comprehensive set of 100+ UI components, ensuring consistency in variants, interaction states, and accessibility.
Evaluate new component requests and collaborate with designers and engineers to ensure alignment with usability and brand standards.
Translate component proposals into complete sets of states, layouts, and accessibility specifications.
Partner with engineering teams to ensure design parity, performance, and accessibility in implementation.
Documentation & Enablement: Create and maintain clear, scalable documentation that serves as the single source of truth for design system components.
Explain complex interaction models and component logic in a way that's accessible to designers and developers of all levels.
Continuously iterate documentation based on feedback, updates, and evolving standards.
Align design documentation with engineering frameworks and naming conventions.
System Optimization & Evolution: Modernize design libraries using advanced Figma features (e.g., component properties, design tokens, variables, auto-layout).
Develop and maintain design tokens to support rapid updates, theming, and scalability.
Reconfigure libraries to align with emerging UX/UI patterns and next-gen design system structures.
Govern shared resources, extension kits, and community libraries to drive adoption and consistency across teams.
Qualifications
Core Skills Proven experience in building and scaling multi-platform design systems (Web, iOS, Android).
Expert-level proficiency in Figma, including component creation, variant management, and auto-layout.
Strong understanding of modular design, system architecture, and scalable content structures.
Deep knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design practices.
Ability to document and extrapolate component logic, states, and usage patterns with clarity.
Commitment to visual consistency and brand alignment across digital experiences.
Understanding of interaction design and how components fit into broader user flows.
Skilled in cross-functional collaboration with product designers, engineers, and accessibility experts.
Strong communication and influencing skills to drive consensus and adoption.
Preferred Experience 5+ years in UX/UI design, design systems, or digital product design.
Experience leading or contributing to enterprise-level design systems.
Familiarity with design-to-development handoff tools (e.g., Figma, Storybook, ZeroHeight).
Experience working with front-end frameworks (React, SwiftUI, Jetpack Compose).
