The Director of Sterile Processing is responsible for leading department operations at the SGMC Health Main and Smith Northview campuses, ensuring the acquisition, safe and efficient sterilization, distribution, and tracking of surgical instruments and supplies. This includes oversight of timely and efficient decontamination, sterilization, assembly, and distribution functions to ensure a consistent supply of safe, sterile instrumentation and equipment to procedural areas, including the Operating Room, procedural suites, and the Ambulatory Care Center. The Director ensures regulatory compliance, promotes a culture of safety and accountability, leads quality initiatives, manages budgets, and develops staff competencies to support high-quality patient care and organizational goals. Collaborates with other hospital departments including Infection Prevention, Materials Management/Supply Chain, and Executive leadership to optimize sterilization processes and maintain a state of readiness for current and future needs. Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare, Business Administration, Nursing, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred. Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) required. Additional certifications (CIS, CER, CHL, or equivalent) preferred. Experience

Minimum five (5) years of documented progressive leadership experience with sterilization processes and high-level disinfection in a procedural or perioperative services setting required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong knowledge of AAMI and AORN standards, sterilization methods, and instrument processing workflows. Proven ability to lead large teams in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and change management skills. Proficiency with instrument tracking software and data analytics. Working Conditions

The majority of work will be in a hospital setting where sterility and cleanliness are critical. Must regularly lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance. Regularly required to reach, stretch, and handle objects; frequently stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or walk. Must be able to speak clearly and hear at low volumes; vision requirements include multiple types of vision. Work involves exposure to blood and body fluids and potential exposure to wet/humid conditions, fumes, and chemicals. Noise level is usually moderate.
