Medical Assistant-Ambulatory OB/GYN at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Essential Responsibilities
Performs a wide variety of medical assisting activities and assists providers with special procedures during patient visits in an office-based clinical setting. Note: duties that require licensed personnel (e.g., drawing medications, medication administration, IV flushing) are not performed by Medical Assistants at BIDMC. Sets up and assists providers and monitors patients during and following routine and special procedures. Performs phlebotomy, takes vital signs, measures height/weight, performs suture removal and dressing changes as needed. Cleans, disinfects and inspects medical equipment and instruments used for patient care between each patient; prepares equipment for sterilization; inspects equipment for damage or repairs. Performs departmental screening, lab tests and specimen collection. Implements quality control standards. Provides patients with relevant instructions for specific tests and procedures. Schedules follow-up tests and appointments using hospital systems. Contacts patients with reminder appointments. Assists licensed practitioners by queuing prescriptions for renewal and performing the initial review of medication listings in the electronic medical record (Web OMR). Procures and correlates medical correspondences from Health Information Management, providers and administration, as directed by the department. Takes complete, accurate information from patients; enters orders and information related to the patient visit in OMR; maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Assists patients with physical and psychological limitations to ensure comfort and dignity during the exam; may include transferring a patient from a wheelchair to the exam table and assisting with dressing and undressing as directed by the provider. Ensures equipment and supplies are available, environment is clean, organized, and stocked; monitors code cart supplies for expiration; tracks, orders and maintains supplies and equipment. Escorts patients to other areas as needed and participates in other support activities to meet patient needs. Attends internal and external educational or training sessions as assigned. Required Qualifications
High School diploma or GED required. Basic familiarity with computers; ability to navigate basic web-based applications. MA, EMT, CNA, LNA certificate or diploma; or at least 5 months of direct patient care experience in a clinical or research setting (e.g., MA, PCT, CNA; nursing or medical student with one clinical rotation). Preferred Qualifications
Phlebotomy certificate. Competencies

Competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Young adult (16-30), Middle Age (30-60), Elderly (60+). Physical Nature of the Job:
Medium work; able to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently; requires standing and movement throughout the shift. Additional Information
