The shift pattern for this post is Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, with no on call.

We are inviting applications for a Specialty Doctor in Older Adult Psychiatry to join our well established, community-focused service within South Glasgow HSCP. This 10-session post is ideal for those looking to provide impactful, patient-centred care across outpatient clinics and domiciliary visits, including to local care homes, supported by a fully integrated mental health and social work team.

You will work closely with a full-time Consultant Psychiatrist who will provide regular clinical supervision appropriate to your level of seniority. There is a strong emphasis on professional development, with protected time in your job plan for teaching, training, and participation in quality improvement projects.

Mental Health Services for Older People in Greater Glasgow and Clyde operate mainly in the community, delivered by multidisciplinary, consultant-led teams. Assessment beds for this area are at Leverndale Hospital, Glasgow. There is a well-established older adult acute liaison and care home liaison in South Glasgow. Regular CPD is provided through internal teaching sessions, monthly case-based discussion groups with South Glasgow consultants and SAS doctors, and access to West of Scotland sessional teaching for Old Age Psychiatry. You will also be invited to University of Glasgow CPD events, and encouraged to engage in audit, local governance, and quality improvement activities.

The post is based at Shawmill Resource Centre, with dedicated office accommodation and medical administration support. The team often hosts resident doctors, higher trainees, and medical students, offering excellent opportunities for teaching and mentoring.

Applicants must hold full GMC registration with a licence to practise, have at least 4 years of full-time postgraduate training (including at least 2 years in psychiatry or evidence of equivalent experience and competencies), and have completed Day 1 and Day 2 of Section 22 Training (or demonstrate competency).
