Patient Transporter, Per Diem

The Transporter is an integral part of the patient care team providing prompt, courteous, customer-focused service to patients, visitors and co-workers. The transporter is responsible for patient transport within the hospital and for miscellaneous functions as well. They contribute to service excellence by fostering collaboration among and between team members and other ancillary departments.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions
Provide safe transport of patients and miscellaneous items within the hospital.
Report any and all violations of hospital procedure and policy, and any safety issues to the appropriate departments.
Communicate with patients, nursing personnel and other department personnel in the performance of position responsibilities; notify appropriate personnel upon arrival/departure of patient and/or miscellaneous items.
Monitor oxygen and intravenous apparatus and report any problems to Nursing personnel.
Transport patients within the hospital in a safe and appropriate manner; assist Nursing staff with moving patients from bed to wheelchair or stretcher; practice good body mechanics; provide privacy and comfort to patients.
Identify patients for transportation by checking the identification band and confirming name and date of birth with the patient.
Observe proper precautions for patients on isolation or with special precautions and use PPE as defined.
Deliver patients' belongings to Security and keep hallways clear by storing equipment in appropriate areas.
Respond to emergencies, code events, and participate in training and educational classes related to Hospital Policies and skills knowledge.
Maintain, clean and, if needed, minor-repair equipment (stretchers, wheelchairs) and report any defects.
Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy in all duties; adhere to attendance guidelines.
May transport specimens and miscellaneous items related to patient care to/from units/departments.
Perform other related duties as assigned; duties may change based on department needs.
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum Experience:
Previous hospital experience preferred.
Minimum Skills/Abilities:
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in the English language; ability to lift without any limitations.
Certification/Licensure:
None
Training:
Training provided in department with experienced transport personnel.
