Full Time | 8 Hours Variable Shift (Union, Non‑Exempt)

Responsibilities
Answers and handles or screens and transfers all telephone calls.
Uses venipuncture and finger stick/heel stick procedures on infants and children.
Obtains specimens from designated patients accurately and efficiently using standardized venipuncture technique for all age groups.
Assists in the procurement of other clinical specimens including bone marrow and other procedures as required.
Complies with established hospital and departmental policies to contribute to a safe, organized, and efficient workplace.
Performs patient identification (2‑step), collects properly prepared specimens, labels all specimens in the patient room, and submits accurate, complete paperwork for clinical assays.
Processes specimens according to laboratory procedures, investigates and resolves discrepancies, and communicates findings to appropriate personnel.
Cooperates with laboratory and hospital personnel for efficient reporting of lab results.
Discards or stores specimens for future reference as appropriate.
Draws blood from in‑patients, out‑patients, and ER patients when needed.
Maintains competency and credentialing files; follows clerical protocols for test requests and reports.
Adheres to strict aseptic principles in all duties.
Evaluates current work systems and suggests positive changes for continuous quality improvement.
Greets and assists all patients and visitors, obtaining required information and paperwork politely and efficiently.
Performs clerical functions in the laboratory office, including phone and verbal communication with hospital personnel.
Orders, receives, stores, and distributes supplies, keeping work areas stocked and clean.
Completes other job‑related duties as delegated.
Processes incoming and outgoing test results, outpatient appointments, and all other laboratory service requests.
Promotes professionalism and cooperation, interacting with others calmly, courteously, and helpfully.
Displays excellent customer relations through clear communication and active listening.
Labels and prepares specimens for distribution to various laboratory sections or for sending out to outside testing facilities (centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing).
Participates in the organization‑wide departmental and interdepartmental quality control and quality improvement program through orientation, education, and planning activities.
Education High School diploma or equivalent (required). Two years of college with a major in biological sciences, chemistry, or equivalent preferred.
Work Experience Minimum: None required. Preferred: A minimum of one year experience in a clinical laboratory or anatomic pathology lab.
Licenses and Certifications
California Phlebotomy Certification – CPTI or CPTII (required).
BLS certification must be completed and maintained (required).
Pay Transparency The hourly rate range for this position is $23.69 – $30.95. Salary decisions consider scope and responsibilities, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
