Akumin® . The PRN MRI Technologist performs MRI procedures by acquiring and analyzing data for diagnostic purposes, under the supervision of a licensed practitioner. Responsibilities include preparing, administering and documenting contrast administration in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, or institutional policy. This role requires interaction with healthcare staff, patient care departments, patients’ families and visitors, and documentation in the patient’s electronic medical record. The position is per-diem and may require coverage for absences or vacations, including at least one shift in a 30-day period.
Responsibilities
Be responsible for patient safety, including pre-screening for contraindications, access control related to zones, screening, equipment handling, and exam scanning as needed; exercise independent judgment in procedure performance; aseptic technique; and potential oversight of remote MRI Technologist Assistants.
Produce high-quality diagnostic images in accordance with imaging protocols, RadSite Accreditation guidelines, and ARRT/ARMRIT standards. Demonstrate competency with different MR equipment and power injection equipment. Maintain quality levels to meet or exceed customer expectations through teamwork and process improvement. Complete annual and ongoing education and site-specific competencies/in-services as designated by leadership.
Effectively communicate with customers and radiologists; address concerns, solve problems, and manage conflicts using all channels of communication. Maintain patient, family and staff confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA.
Demonstrate independent competency in contrast safety and administration, including starting and discontinuing peripheral IVs and administering contrast through vascular access points such as ports, CVLs and PICCs if indicated. Demonstrate proficiency with Akumin’s EMR systems, PACS and DICOM for image sharing and interpretation.
Train and orient new technologists, patient coordinators and MR Technologist Assistants, on site and/or via remote command center as needed.
Other duties as assigned by leadership.
Position Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's Degree or equivalent experience preferred.
ARRT(MR) or ARMRIT certification as allowable by contract in lieu of ARRT.
State license, if applicable.
CPR Certification, BLS from AHA or ARC; ACLS where applicable.
Valid state driver’s license, as applicable.
Minimum 3 years technologist experience.
Ability to work at several locations.
Strong customer service and organizational, multi-tasking, and critical thinking skills.
Basic knowledge of computer applications.
Local travel may be required.
Preferred Requirements
1 year of Magnetic Resonance Imaging experience.
Registry in Magnetic Resonance by the ARRT.
Physical Requirements The employee may be exposed to external weather during patient transport on mobile units and to a strong magnetic field. May be exposed to blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
More than 50% of the time: Sit, stand, walk; repetitive movements; see, speak and hear to communicate with patients.
Less than 50% of the time: Stooping, kneeling or crawling; climbing and balancing; carry and lift non-ambulatory patients as needed for transfer or examination.
