Overview
Enterprise Special Asset Recovery Manager at Tompkins Community Bank. Responsible for enterprise-wide management of the Bank’s asset recovery activities, overseeing consistent implementation of asset recovery strategies across all Markets, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, Bank policies and procedures, and risk appetite. Reports to the Enterprise Credit Administration Officer. Responsibilities
Provide leadership over the Bank’s Special Asset Recovery activities and ensure asset recovery strategies are implemented consistently across all Markets. Collaborate with Market-based Presidents, Senior Lenders, Senior Credit Officers, and other Special Asset Recovery Managers to develop and implement effective workout strategies. Work with the Enterprise Credit Administration Officer and CPC Working Group to maintain contemporary asset recovery practices and loan policies. Manage workload from an enterprise perspective, allocating special asset volume to teammates with capacity while upholding Tompkins values and community commitments. Attend Market Based Action Plan meetings and contribute to asset recovery strategies. Serve as liaison to Finance and Accounting, communicating significant asset recovery events and their impact on financial performance. Provide periodic reports on Special Assets to the Credit Policy Committee, Credit Oversight Committee, and CECL Committee. Maintain knowledge of loan compliance and regulatory requirements to ensure enterprise-wide compliance; stay informed on industry best practices and lending standards. Monitor asset recovery progress against corporate objectives, identify deviations, and develop corrective action plans. Manage the Market’s Special Assets Portfolio to achieve goals, minimize risk, and align with risk appetite and regulatory requirements, including: overseeing criticized/classified loans, OREO, charged-off loans, and troubled consumer/residential loans; shadowing Relationship Managers where needed; conducting thorough loan documentation reviews; evaluating collateral and valuations; determining reserve requirements with Finance; developing workout strategies; preparing reports for senior management and the Board; and leading action plan meetings for criticized/classified loans. Implement strategies assigned by Market leadership and ensure adherence to internal policies, risk management practices, and regulatory requirements. Regularly attend Officers Loan Committee and Board Meetings; communicate with Board Audit, Division Manager, other department managers, and staff to align goals and activities. Provide periodic reports to the Board, Audit, Finance, Independent Loan Review, Regulators, and Division Manager as required. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field; specialized lending and loan review education and training. Minimum of fifteen (15) years of credit risk experience including at least 5 years in special asset management. Proficient interpersonal relations and communication skills. Thorough knowledge of bank lending principles, policies, and practices; proficient financial statement analysis skills. Knowledge of current lending and collection laws and regulations.
