Base pay range $129,100.00/yr - $152,700.00/yr

The Controller – LATAM Real Estate Management Services (REMS) is a critical role that will be responsible for the accounting and financial reporting activities, governance and compliance, and policy for the Americas region, reporting directly to the Americas- REMS Controller.

In a high-powered team environment, the successful candidate will apply accounting & compliance theory to real world commercial real estate integrated facilities management and project & development services engagements at an assigned collection of Fortune 2000 clients with varying degrees of contractual and service delivery complexity. This out of the box thinking professional will also help us to define what duties should shift to a shared services center while retaining ownership of the accuracy of the financial results and help us execute that strategy. Routine duties will include analyzing and reviewing higher-risk financial accounts, balance sheets, income statements, financial statements, records, and reports that ultimately feed into our SEC-reported results. Additionally, this role will help maintain the accuracy of our financial systems, assist in the preparation and development of leading Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) supporting workpapers, support external and internal audits as required; deliver the year end closing with zero surprises; and assist across a variety of global segment specific business related activities.

Responsibilities

Oversee and maintain accounting and financial reporting function for LATAM REMS business, including monthly, quarterly and annual financial close processes

Primarily responsible for the preparation of consolidated WD financial results and Sox compliance

Accounting process standardization and oversight/approval

Oversee and maintain an internal control environment compliant with SOX requirements; assist in resolution of any accounting and internal control issues

Coordinate with business line and consolidation teams

Direct the internal and external audit processes

Management of the LATAM controllership team, including approximately 35 direct and indirect reports

Reporting and Analysis

Lead the workday 1-5 close calls and workday 5 controlling close meetings to present LATAM results and to provide commentary on period over periodic changes

Maintains an open issues list of critical close items for LATAM throughout close and ensures their timely resolution

Perform periodic and ad-hoc value-added analysis of results against prior period performance; investigate changes or trends and document the results of investigation

Review key balance sheet reconciliations with an eye for process improvement and/or consistency across accounts/clients

Partner with Tableau reporting team to enhance existing reports/dashboards and build new ones that enable better and faster controllership analysis

Accounting and Auditing

In partnership with the Global Technical Accounting team, conduct technical accounting research, including support of consolidation and revenue recognition, compensation arrangements, and leases

Partner with Finance, Tax, and Legal to understand and document issues relevant to WD

Coordinate risk management and analysis, ensuring compliance with SOX requirements

Partner directly with Global Accounting Compliance and external audit teams

Leadership/Team Management

Serve as champion of new accounting guidance and new Global initiatives as they pertain to REMS

Establish and maintain relationships within REMS controllership team, as well across the broader REMS Finance team (Business Partnering, FP&A)

Act as primary liaison with the REMS Client Finance organization

Provide career guidance to direct reports; prepare and communicate performance reviews

Dotted line relationships to global JLLT, Leasing, and Corporate segment global leadership

Qualifications Functional Competencies:

Bilingual in English and Spanish; Portuguese a plus

Deep understanding of US GAAP and ability to effectively communicate key issues to finance and business leadership

Expert in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point

Excellent in financial process management and best practice influencer

Experience in or familiarity with financial system implementations a plus

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field with 10+ years of experience

CPA required; MBA/MSA preferred

Experience in performing in-depth accounting research and translating that research into analytical, logical, and coherent written communications

Experience working and communicating within multi-national corporations and/or SEC registrants a plus
