Overview

Paiute Language Specialist (40 hrs/wk, 260 days/yr). Under general supervision of the Title VI Specialist & classroom teachers, assists in creating and delivering language and cultural instruction for the purpose of Paiute language and culture revitalization; and performs other duties as required. Exemplary Duties/Responsibilities

Maintain 9-12th grade instruction for beginner-level 1-4 Paiute language classes. Provide a culturally appropriate learning atmosphere that maintains a safe physical environment for good instruction and learning. Develop hands-on Paiute language lessons aligned with Nevada Academic Content Standards. Collaborate with the cooperating Certified classroom teacher, other language instructors, the Curriculum & Instruction World Language Coordinator, local tribal governments, and tribal elders on course design and development. Ensure teaching materials and evaluation measures support program objectives. Participate in professional development and training opportunities. Assist with linguistic documentation and archiving projects, using questioning and discussion techniques in line with current best practices. Provide language presentations for educational and cultural outreach events. Collaborate with staff from other tribes to develop and nurture relationships and partnerships. Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct. Qualifications

Education/Experience: Any combination likely to provide the required knowledge and skills. A typical path includes either: A Bachelor's degree and/or Associate's degree or college coursework in Education, Linguistics, Human Development and Family Sciences, Sociology, Counseling or related fields to education, Native Studies, Equity or Cultural studies. AND/OR Three (3) years of teaching Paiute language. Demonstrated strong proficiency as a Paiute language speaker and prior success in delivering language and cultural sharing/teaching events. Knowledge: Principles and methodologies relevant to independent performance of recurring assignments; familiarity with grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and equipment; basic computer familiarity; knowledge of effective verbal and written communication in English and Paiute or a comparable language/dialect. Skills: Working with high school students (9th-12th grades); strong communication and organizational skills; experience with lesson development is preferred; passion for inspiring students to learn Paiute; experience with Zoom and Microsoft Teams; ability to present to groups and respond to questions; ability to reflect on teaching and adjust based on feedback; ability to incorporate traditional customs into coursework; teamwork and willingness to maintain a flexible school schedule. Licenses/Certificates: Ability to obtain NAC391.233 Endorsement to teach Great Basin Native American language (or exception to teach without endorsement per NRS 391.019). Special Considerations

Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which may include mornings, afternoons, or evening hours. Must be able to speak, read, write and interpret the Paiute Language. Employment Details

Internal Job Number 2025-26-E256727 Salary: Grade 23 — Sch A: $25.26 (entry step); Sch B: $30.45 (entry step). Salaries are subject to annual adjustment. New employees are normally placed on the entry step.
