Seeks and underwrites within Eastern Region as an E&S Underwriter. The group works with brokers and agents in the Eastern US. Remote work is available for candidates located in the Eastern Time Zone or hybrid in the Scottsdale, AZ office. Provide support to the underwriting process, make decisions within assigned authority, review applications, and project a professional company image via internal and external interactions. Assess new and renewal accounts to determine acceptability based on NIC underwriting guidelines and authority. Review accounts to verify issuance compliance with NIC guidelines, address discrepancies, and enter information into systems. Establish types and limits of coverage to be provided. Create, analyze and interpret data from various systems and underwriting resources. Monitor production, profitability, and maintain agency relationships; collaborate with underwriting team and other departments on underwriting philosophy. Communicate effectively (written/verbal) with internal and external customers to maintain standards of excellence. Consult with agency staff to obtain additional information on existing accounts; promote consistency within underwriting teams and contribute to company goals. Maintain confidentiality and discretion with internal and external information; stay familiar with state laws and filing requirements within assigned territory. Consult with underwriting team to determine if reinsurance is needed and negotiate terms with designated reinsurer companies. Identify and recommend changes to policy verbiage when standard text is not appropriate, seeking manager approval before implementing. Monitor insurance in force on risks; evaluate potential catastrophe losses and take necessary action as needed. Assist with development of special programs, underwriting procedures, and educational seminars as needed. Prepare reports and business correspondence; coordinate visits and meetings as required. Provide guidance and support to less experienced team members; travel to agent offices and external events is required. Perform other duties as assigned. Bachelor's degree; or at least two years of experience in a business or related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. AIS, ASLI, AU, and CPCU designations or completion of other insurance-related classes is preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of experience as an insurance underwriter in commercial property and casualty. Basic knowledge of computer programs in a Windows environment, including Word, Excel and email. Capability to learn and utilize underwriting applications to determine accurate classifications and calculate rates and premium charges using approved rating methods. Excess and Surplus lines background is beneficial. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages. Additional Company Details
