Position: Phlebotomist 3228
Location: Columbia, MD
Schedule: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday–Friday and every other Saturday
Contract: 3 months + potential for permanent

Summary The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot, train and make work flow recommendations.
Responsibilities
Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
Explain the venipuncture (blood drawing) process clearly and courteously, and assist with other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required.
Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Fully understand all physician orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
Check test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure accuracy (aim for 100%).
Package specimens for transport and store samples according to required temperature; place samples as needed.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum 2 years of experience in phlebotomy
Phlebotomy on all ages; able to handle large volumes
Ability to perform hard sticks and handle needles
Detail oriented; good data entry and processing skills
Computer skills
