Broadwind, Inc. is hiring an Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager who will be responsible for multi-sites by developing, implementing and maintaining the company’s EHS policies and best practices to ensure compliance with all applicable Federal, State, local statutes and regulations across four facilities in IL, PA, NC and Abilene (Environmental Support Only) with travel up to 25% of the time. The EHS Manager will be responsible for creating a safety culture throughout the organization to reduce the frequency and severity of accidents and injuries. The EHS Manager will also be responsible for implementing environmental practices, which minimize environmental impact and support sustainable business practices.
Responsibilities and essential functions
Support the maintenance of the company’s EHS policies, objectives, standards, procedures and guidance consistent with Broadwind standards and processes to provide a basis for the effective management of EHS.
Provide onsite leadership and support to locations in Cicero, IL (home base); and quarterly in Pittsburgh, PA, Sanford, NC and Abilene, TX.
Provide oversight and direction for environmental processes to all BWEN locations including Abilene, TX.
Provide advice, expertise and training (where appropriate) to enable company personnel to comply with the requirements of the company EHS policy and to develop the competence required to fulfill their roles and responsibilities.
Develop and implement company training programs related to EHS including OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
Lead and facilitate regular EHS meetings, working directly with supervisors and managers to implement needed safety/health, emergency response and risk prevention engagement.
Assist in identification, analysis and control of occupational hazards requiring the application of professional EHS knowledge, skill and abilities.
Maintain knowledge of environmental regulations and advise management team on impact to operations.
Conduct worksite inspections and employee training to ensure proper environmental work practices are being followed; advise on areas of opportunity.
Conduct scheduled risk audits of operations to ensure compliance with company policies related to Federal, State and local OSHA, EPA and DOT regulations.
Implement corrective/preventive measures to eliminate out of compliance audit exceptions.
Check on the use of all types of personal protective equipment, evaluate their effectiveness and suggest improvements where needed.
Lead the review of all accidents, and near miss accidents associated with the various plants. Identify root cause and implement corrective/preventive measures to eliminate accidents.
Serve as the interface between the Corporate Risk/Insurance and Workers Compensation loss control representatives in order to fulfill Company risk management obligations.
Oversee all Worker’s Compensation claims and manage the company’s exposure to such claims.
Oversee administration of employee physicals, safety incentive programs, for-cause drug testing programs, hearing conservation, CPR/First Aid training, and other industry specific safety training and manage at each site.
Process and track documentation/record-keeping that supports ISO certification.
Participate in qualification processes with customers related to EHS.
Participate and/or lead product planning reviews prior to execution to identify and mitigate EHS risk.
Manage waste streams from determining service capabilities to shipment and disposal at approved sites.
Advise on setting of EHS targets/key milestones and monitor implementation and follow-up.
Collect and track metrics associated with targets and milestones and report monthly on status.
Academic/Experience/Credentials/Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in safety management, environmental science, industrial hygiene, occupational health, or other closely related degree.
Seven years of EHS experience in manufacturing; or five years of EHS experience with an advanced degree in safety or environmental science, or business administration.
Experience in heavy industrial fabrications or machining environment preferred.
Previous experience with environmental risk management and knowledge of Clean Air Act Title V, RCRA, ISO 14001 and OHSAS18001 is highly preferred.
Experience managing EHS for multi-sites.
Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and/or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certification desired.
Specialized Skills/Knowledge/Ability
Knowledge of applicable EHS regulations and best practice.
Excellent oral/written and presentation skills.
Ability to generate reporting on safety related metrics.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate employees and influence management.
Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
