Overview
Bloomingdale's Leadership Development Program offers an accelerated path into buying or planning roles. The program includes an eight-week immersive start with interactive training and hands-on experience to develop technical, business, and leadership skills, followed by placement into an Initial role as Assistant Buyer or Assistant Planner. Additional learning opportunities continue throughout the first year. The program emphasizes collaboration, learning, and growth across merchandising, stores, marketing, digital, and other areas.

Mentorship opportunities
After the initial immersion, participants are placed into:
Assistant Buyer
or
Assistant Planner . After the first year, there are opportunities to advance in merchandising, stores, marketing, digital, and more.
Responsibilities
As a Buyer: select and curate merchandise that creates a distinctive image and demand; drive sales and profitability through strategy creation and execution.
Partner with vendors to curate Bloomingdale's assortment across channels.
Analyze and react to business trends; select appropriate merchandise to satisfy customer demand.
Monitor stock levels, analyze sell-through, and make recommendations for future buys.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Planning, Marketing, Creative, Site Merchandising) to grow the business through omnichannel strategies.
As a Planner: drive the business using analytics to optimize sales, gross margin, and turnover for stores and online; develop localization strategies by demographics and market characteristics.
Analyze sales and stock performance by location; understand opportunities and liabilities.
Develop pre-market analysis and manage the merchandise financial plan.
Collaborate with Planning, Buying and cross-functional teams including replenishment, sizing, fulfillment, and finance.
Develop and execute a strategic vision with a customer-centric approach while delivering sales and profit objectives.
Qualifications
Passionate about a career in retail across product categories
Prior retail experience a plus
Campus involvement in retail clubs or organizations a plus
Curious with a drive to make an impact
Strong analytical skills
Proficiency in MS Excel
Strong business acumen balancing analytical and creative thinking
Well-developed communication, interpersonal and time management skills
Organized with ability to multi-task
Ability to succeed in a team environment
Current college senior or graduate with solid academic record (GPA 3.2+ preferred)
All majors welcomed; business majors a plus
