WATER PLANT MAINTENANCE MECHANIC (BC-11) [1 vacancy]
Overview
Maintenance and repair of company vehicles and mechanical equipment, including portable and auxiliary generators, air compressors, mounted equipment, blowers, and fork lifts. Ensure safe operation and continued availability of company vehicles for field forces use. Perform related duties as required. Base pay range
$19.78/hr - $37.55/hr Responsibilities
Services Company vehicles, compressor units and other related equipment according to set schedules and shop practices/procedures. Uses precision tools, testing instruments and machines for diagnosing, analyzing and correcting trouble on computerized analog systems. Repairs mechanical trouble on Company vehicles and other mechanical equipment. Repairs bodies and fenders using MIG/ARC/gas welding equipment. Performs vehicle and equipment repairs on aerial units, air brakes, and refrigeration units. Also performs repairs to air conditioning and system recharging (in compliance with EPA requirements), component diagnostic trouble shooting, auto electrical repair, automotive overhaul, and other general automotive repairs. Performs hydraulic repairs, including repairs to forklift and backhoe equipment. Provides guidance and direction to Mechanic Helpers. Performs City & County and DOT safety inspections on Company vehicles. Operates Company and other vehicles as required. Employee Qualifications
Tests - Results obtained in standard tests for this position must meet minimum requirements established by the testing program. Physical Demands: Ability to identify and distinguish colors; ability to lift, carry, push or pull heavy items (engines, transmissions, etc.); ability to climb a ladder; ability to stand for long periods. Mental Demands: Requires alertness and attention to detail. Must qualify for a valid CDL Class A Hawaii driver’s license (within the first four months on the job), including operation of tractor-trailers and fuel tankers. Must not be restricted to automatic transmission or daylight hours only. Must meet medical and driver certification requirements as established by the DOT Act. Ability to accurately diagnose and correct engine, fuel/air system and/or electrical/computerized analog control system problems in Company vehicles using diagnostic equipment. Must qualify as a State of Hawaii Safety Inspector and a DOT Safety Inspector within the first four months on the job. Must have a registered or certified mechanic’s license with the State of Hawaii. Two (2) years experience as a registered/certified mechanic; OR Three (3) years Mechanic’s Helper experience with Hawaiian Telcom. Working Conditions
Indoor-outdoor work with the majority outdoors. Exposed to adverse weather conditions, noise, dust, grease, dirt, chemical irritants, etc. Weekday, weekend, holiday work schedules including day, evening, and night hours. Subject to overtime and callouts.
