Responsibilities

Implement all company and division policies to achieve maximum sales and profits in the produce departments.

Direct and manage the produce department operations, including personnel, merchandising, ordering, inventory, shrink control, customer service, labor scheduling, and expense control.

Ensure effective production, merchandising, and customer service related to sale of merchandise.

Communicate effectively with employees, customers, and supervision; maintain composure under changing priorities and demands.

Demonstrate prompt, tactful, calm, courteous, and professional interactions; manage workloads and supervise the produce team as assigned.

Perform all duties as assigned by the store manager and/or supervisor and be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Qualifications

Willing to be flexible and work mornings, afternoons, evenings, and nights as the work demands; willing and available to work weekends and holidays as needed.

Understanding of key components of department operations (managing people, merchandising, assisted ordering, inventory management, shrink control, customer services, labor scheduling, expense control, etc.).

Working knowledge of produce operations and general store operations.

Strong communication skills (written and oral) and ability to make quick, intelligent decisions.

Able to handle stressful situations tactfully and calmly; make a positive impression on associates and customers.

Ability to promote, communicate, and implement company initiatives and process improvements to direct reports.

Preferred/Desired

Produce work experience or similar in food preparation.

Dependable and demonstrated integrity.

Ability to develop customer relations and implement company policies through personal example.

Experience in hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating department personnel.

Provide knowledge and training on price marking and customer courtesy.

Supervise all aspects of salad bar operations and plan efficient schedules for staff.

Maintain neat appearance and proper uniforms for department staff; maintain good communication with store personnel.

Plan, organize, direct, and control department activities; may assume store operation duties in the manager’s absence.

Direct receiving, storing, pricing, and merchandising of all produce products; maintain adequate stock levels.

Analyze and adjust department space, display, rotation, inventories, and personnel as needed; implement process improvements.
