Overview
Position: Assistant Coach - Varsity Swimming and Dive Employer: Manassas Park City Schools Responsibilities
Instruct athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategies, and physical training to achieve individual and team success. Instruct participants on personal hygiene and safety procedures and the need to report injuries to the coach and/or trainer immediately. Foster among participants and spectators an appreciation of the values of athletics, good sportsmanship, and pride in self, team, school, and community. Inform students of the insurance program available through Manassas Park City Schools. Provide a safe environment through adequate supervision. Assist Head Coach with maintaining individual and team performance records. Assist Head Coach in providing accurate records of equipment to the Director of Athletics/Director of Student Activities. Convey team, local school, and MPCS policies to all participants. Ensure compliance with rules and regulations of the Virginia High School League, regional and district councils, and MPCS. Submit forms to the Director of Athletics/Director of Student Activities to meet requirements by the Virginia High School League, the School Board, local school, and MPCS. Follow School Activity Funds Manual and local school policies involving financial transactions. Establish procedures for communicating with parents/guardians. Inform students about athletic programs and encourage participation. Assist Head Coach with public relations and conveying information on athletic programs. Implement appropriate procedures when handling injury situations; ensure availability of first aid kits and emergency care cards. Inspect facilities, equipment, and environmental conditions to ensure safety. Participate in professional growth activities and school-approved award programs. Provide an atmosphere conducive to good sportsmanship. Assist other personnel and perform other duties as may be required to ensure an efficient and effective work environment. Performs other related duties, as assigned. Qualifications
MPCS staff preferred. Knowledge and background in assigned sport. Previous coaching experience in assigned sport is desirable. Physical Requirements
Must have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with staff and the public. Physical capability to use and operate office equipment. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions will be required. Clearances (Conditions For Employment)
