Instructional Support Specialist

The Instructional Support Specialist (ISS) at the Young Adult Learning Center will work collaboratively with GED classroom teachers, special education teachers, and the Dean of Academics. The ISS will support students and the overall learning experience, providing necessary academic enrichment and supplemental assistance to help students thrive. Responsibilities
Assists the teacher by monitoring and supporting instructional and/or other classroom-based activities for students as prompted by an in-person or virtual teacher Provides tutoring and supplemental services for all GED subjects Serves as a substitute teacher for up to an entire day of instruction or, at minimum, an entire class period Maintains order and discipline in classrooms by enforcing rules and school policies Monitors students in academic and non-academic settings Monitors students throughout the school day, including in the classroom, hallways, during lunch, and at school events Assists with arrival and departure routines for in-person instruction Takes attendance and locates students not in their assigned areas Provides crisis prevention and intervention where appropriate Maintains a controlled environment for students and staff in the school building and campus Participates in Intensive Behavior Intervention staff development in-service training Assists with the implementation of behavior management techniques used with individuals with special needs Assists students individually or in small groups according to classroom assessments Participates in various meetings to share information regarding student progress and opportunities Facilitates YALC boot camps and other academic activities and interventions Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in education (preferred) or related field Three or more years of teaching or classroom-based teaching experience Experience with adult learners ages 18 years and older (preferred) Extensive knowledge about the official GED exam (preferred) Experience in school-based behavior management and/or crisis intervention Keen understanding of academic interventions and differentiated learning Salary and Benefits
