Overview The Commodity Trader will be responsible for managing the strategic sourcing, pricing, and hedging of cocoa butter, cake, and powder. This role includes executing cocoa derivatives and hedging strategies to support Blommer’s trading activities. The individual will oversee sourcing reports, monitor contract performance for both purchases and sales, and contribute to initiatives aimed at reducing working capital and optimizing trade finance. Additionally, the role involves maintaining supplier quality data through TraceGains and providing backup support to other traders as needed.

Base pay range $96,000.00/yr - $114,000.00/yr

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Execute and manage futures positions in alignment with the company’s hedging policy as needed.
Drive profitability through effective hedging strategies and establish systems to monitor trading P&L independently.
Proactively manage structures and execute buy/sell switches to optimize trading outcomes.
Provide tailored risk management solutions to chocolate customers when appropriate.
Develop and maintain trading models based on both fundamental and technical market analysis.
Ensure all trading positions remain within approved risk limits.
Oversee and mitigate risks associated with purchases from FOB suppliers and other procurement channels.
Collaborate with the sales team to deliver insightful cocoa market presentations to customers.
Offer strategic recommendations to customers and support the sales team in market-related discussions.
Continuously monitor and communicate market developments to keep the sales team informed.
Validate financial calculations from trade finance partners, including supply chain finance costs.
Analyze and quantify the impact of countermeasures such as bean blend adjustments, spread cost reductions, and other trader-led initiatives.
Sourcing & Contracting (25%)
Align with planning teams to procure optimal volumes at competitive prices for the required timeframes.
Maintain strong commercial relationships with suppliers and negotiate favorable terms.
Capitalize on trading opportunities to enhance group P&L through strategic buying and selling.
Understand and manage the S&OP process for cocoa products to ensure sourcing aligns with operational needs.
Conduct monthly reconciliations of open contracts and hold suppliers accountable for timely deliveries.
Uphold quality standards by ensuring all sourced products meet specifications.
Expand and diversify the supplier base, initiating approvals for new butter, cake, and powder suppliers to secure competitive pricing.
Lead R&D initiatives related to cocoa derivatives to enhance sourcing flexibility.
Manage sustainability credit positions for cocoa products.
Maintain inventory levels of butter, cake, and powder within 3–4 months of forecasted usage.
Support the development of sourcing strategies by analyzing global and regional market dynamics, ensuring diversity, cost competitiveness, and alignment with internal and sustainability goals.
Achieve targeted Product PPV (Purchase Price Variance) objectives.
Supply Chain & Operational Support
Maintain and update the approved supplier list in SAP, including vendor setup activities.
Facilitate the approval process for new product suppliers using the TraceGains system.
Monitor product quality and manage claims or rejections as necessary.
Track sourcing-related costs and provide variance analysis against budgeted costs per metric ton, including storage, freight, and inbound logistics.
Identify and implement optimal logistics solutions to streamline cocoa bean and product delivery to Blommer facilities.
Provide market intelligence and analysis to support broader team initiatives.
Serve as a communication bridge between traders and logistics to ensure alignment and transparency.
Actively engage with cross-functional teams including sales, quality, R&D, and production to keep stakeholders informed of supply-side developments.
Demonstrate and promote Blommer’s core values of respect, care, and teamwork in all interactions.

Physical Requirements:
General office environment with majority of time using computer; prolonged periods of sitting
Travel required, approximately 5-25%
Safety, Quality and Hygiene Requirements:

Comply with workplace uniform requirements and safety gear, when on the plant floor vs. office.

Skills and Work Experience Requirements:
1+ years’ experience in cocoa or other commodity, hedging, supplier development and fundamental market analysis or equivalent combination of education and experience
Demonstrates a mindset with an eye toward operational excellence
Diverse knowledge of commodity procurement procedures
Knowledge of derivatives trading
Prioritize and assess risk to the business and adapt to rapidly changing situations
Ability to establish and build trusting relationships at all levels of the organization
Time management and organizational skills
Willingness and ability to work in a fast-paced environment

This role is eligible for either a discretionary annual bonus (based on company, business unit and individual performance) and/or commission-based incentives.
